Yue Opera is the second largest drama in China. Known as the second national drama, "the most popular local drama." Originated in Shengzhou, Zhejiang, originated in Shanghai, flourished in the whole country and spread to the world. In the process of development, it absorbed the achievements of Kunqu opera, traditional opera and Shao opera, and experienced the historical evolution from men's Yue opera to women's Yue opera.
Yue Opera is mostly based on "talented people and beautiful women", and there are many artistic schools, among which 13 are recognized. Mainly popular in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Jiangxi, Anhui and other southern regions, as well as most northern regions such as Beijing and Tianjin. Yue Opera is the first national intangible cultural heritage list. In 2006, Shanghai Yueju Opera Art Academy (Shanghai Yueju Theatre) and Shengzhou Yueju Opera Art Protection and Inheritance Center were granted the status of national intangible cultural heritage Yueju Opera project protection units. In 2008, Fujian Fanghua Yue Opera Troupe was awarded the national intangible cultural heritage Yue Opera (Silver Pai) project protection unit.
