How to raise Hongfeng stump bonsai
Hongfeng is a small deciduous tree belonging to Acer of Aceraceae, and it is one of the varieties of Castanea henryi. In spring and autumn, the bright red leaves covering the trees have very high ornamental value. They are often planted in gardens and courtyards, and can also be planted in flowerpots to make bonsai with different shapes. Let's talk about the cultivation method of potted red maple.

First, the growth habit requirements

illuminate

Hongfeng likes light and shade, is afraid of strong light, and is suitable for neutral and cloudy light. You can put potted plants in a place with sufficient scattered light for maintenance and proper sun exposure.

2. Temperature

Hongfeng likes cold, the suitable growth temperature is 18 to 25℃, and it can tolerate the temperature of-20℃, but the potted Hongfeng has poor cold resistance and can be maintained on the balcony in winter.

3. Land

Red maple does not require high soil fertility, but potted red maple can choose soil rich in humus, which is helpful for plants to flourish and improve their resistance. Soft, humus-rich neutral or acidic sandy loam should be selected, and red maple special culture soil is generally used.

water

Hongfeng likes humidity, but she is afraid of waterlogging. As long as the soil is kept slightly moist. Water more during the growth period, especially in summer, once in the morning and evening, and less in winter, which can be watered once every 3 ~ 5 days.

fertilize the soil or land

When releasing the basin or changing the soil for the first time, base fertilizer should be added to the basin bottom, and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be applied in autumn. Fertilization is needed during the growth period, and decomposed dilute liquid fertilizer is applied once every 15 days.

Second, the management measures

1. Pest control

The main pests and diseases of Hongfeng are powdery mildew, brown spot, leafhopper, moth and longicorn, which need to be prevented in time. Chemical reagents can be used for spraying. When the disease occurs, the diseased branches and leaves should be cut off first and burned centrally.

prune

Usually after the yellow leaves appear, they should be trimmed in time. After the autumn leaves fall, they can be reshaped, pruning redundant branches, pests and diseases, dead branches and crossed branches. Red maple leaves are usually red, turning green in summer and red in late autumn. If you want to turn red in advance, you can pick leaves properly in August to promote the growth of new red leaves.

Replace flowerpots and soil.

Usually change the basin once every two to three years, and it is appropriate to change the basin in spring or autumn.

Third, the feeding method.

1. Cutting method

Potted red maple is usually propagated and cultivated by cutting. Generally, the cuttings are carried out in June-July, and the branches with strong growth and a length of about 20 cm are taken for cutting, and the cuttings are kept moist. Before cutting, the cutting incision should be soaked in 1000 mg/kg NAA for 5 seconds, and then cut into the cultivation medium, which should be the mixed soil of vermiculite and pond mud. After cutting, you can't bask in the sun, keep the soil moist, and you can grow roots in about 30 days.

2. Sowing method

Hongfeng seeds mature from September to 10, and should be soaked in cold water 1 day before sowing.

3. Grafting method

Acer truncatum, 2-4 years old, is often used as rootstock for grafting and propagation in early spring, and can also be budded in late autumn. Usually, the full and complete buds on the robust short branches of red maple are used as scions, and the leaves on the grafted buds should be 1 cm long. After 7 days, they will fall off when they touch the petiole, indicating that the grafting is successful.
