HUB: Most of the time, it is used in star and tree network topologies, and the host computer is connected with RJ45 interface (and BNC interface). Router: Structurally, it can be divided into "modular router" and "non-modular router"; Routers are usually divided into "border routers" and "intermediate node routers" according to their networks. Functionally, routers can be divided into class routers, enterprise routers and access routers.

3, the working principle is different

HUB: Hub works in the physical layer of OSI/RM reference model and MAC (Media Access Control) sublayer of data link layer. The physical layer defines electrical signals, symbols, line status and clock requirements, data coding and connectors for data transmission.

Because the hub only shapes and amplifies the signal and then forwards it without coding, it is a physical layer device. 10M hub has four available standard interfaces in the physical layer, namely: 10BASE-5, 10BASE-2, 10BASE-T and10base-f. 10BASE-5(AUI) port of 10M hub is used to connect 1 layer and layer 2.

Routers: Routers are divided into local routers and remote routers. Local routers are used to connect network transmission media, such as optical fiber, coaxial cable and twisted pair. Remote router is used to connect remote transmission media, and it needs corresponding equipment, such as telephone line with modem, wireless through wireless receiver and transmitter.
