Is Ligustrum lucidum poisonous? !
Don't!

Ligustrum lucidum is an evergreen shrub or small tree of Ligustrum lucidum in Oleaceae, also known as Ligustrum lucidum and Holly. Originated in China, it is widely distributed in the Yangtze River valley and the south, and also cultivated in North China and Northwest China. It can withstand the low temperature of about-10℃ and overwinter safely in the shelter of buildings with good microclimate in the north. It is a native tree species widely used in landscaping.

The height of Ligustrum lucidum can reach 8 to 13 meters, and its branches spread obliquely into a broad oval and round crown. Bark grayish brown, leathery leaves opposite, ovate to ovate-lanceolate. The surface is dark green and shiny, and the back is light green and smooth and hairless. Aromatic white florets cluster at the top of branches to form terminal panicles, which are12 ~ 20cm long, and bear oval drupes after flowering, about 0.8cm long. The fruit is purple-blue when it is ripe. The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruiting period is11-65438+February.

Ligustrum lucidum likes light, but it is slightly resistant to shade. Like warm and humid climate, suitable for fertile, deep and humid slightly acidic, neutral or slightly alkaline soil. Strong germination, pruning resistance, absorption of sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride and other toxic gases, and dust retention, smoke resistance, sound insulation, so it is most suitable as a pollution source and dust-producing factories, mining areas around the green tree species.

Ligustrum lucidum can be planted and cut to raise seedlings. Sowing seedlings should be sown immediately after harvesting in winter, and drupes should not be treated. If the seeds are sown in the following spring, the drupe should be soaked in water, peeled, washed, dried in the shade and stored in a wet sand layer. If you don't dry in the sand and sow in spring, the germination rate will be low, and it will take a summer to emerge. Therefore, it is best to sow in winter, which not only can germinate early, but also has higher germination rate and emergence rate than spring sowing. Sowing is usually done by sowing or drilling, and the soil thickness is 1 to 1.5 cm. After sowing, seedlings emerge in the next spring, and the plant height can reach 50 cm. As an ornamental street tree, to cultivate Gao Qian plants, it is necessary to plant them densely at the seedling stage, trim their shapes, then change beds and cultivate them into big seedlings, and then leave the nursery four or five years later. As a hedge, you can leave the garden that winter. Except for sooty blotch, Ligustrum lucidum is rare in pests and diseases and easy to manage.

Cutting propagation should be carried out in February and March in spring or rainy season. Cut annual branches with a diameter of 0.3 ~ 0.4 cm and a length of 12 ~ 15 cm. The upper node 1 cm is flat, the lower node is inclined, and the upper node has 1 ~ 2 leaves. The cuttings are planted in the sand bed, which is 2/3 of the cutting length, keeping the seedbed moist and easy to survive. Strengthen the management of fertilizer and water after transplanting, and the height of seedlings can reach 70 ~ 90cm in that year.

Ligustrum lucidum can be used as an isolated tree with evergreen seasons, lush foliage and round crown. In summer, white flowers in full bloom gather into panicles, covered with branches, and the white flowers exude fragrance, which is very eye-catching against the green leaves. In autumn, clusters of blue-purple fruits are covered with branches, which is very spectacular. In winter, lush green leaves show a firm and unyielding charm.

Ligustrum lucidum is a common ornamental tree species in gardens, which can be planted alone or in clusters in the courtyard, and can also be used as a street tree. Because of its strong adaptability, fast growth and pruning resistance, it is also used as a hedge. Generally, it can be molded after 3 ~ 4 years to achieve the isolation effect. It is easy to sow, propagate and raise seedlings, and can also be used as rootstock to graft and propagate osmanthus fragrans and clove.

At the same time, Ligustrum lucidum has medicinal value. Ripe fruits are harvested, dried in the sun or scalded with hot water. The traditional Chinese medicine is called Ligustrum lucidum, which is cool and sweet. It can nourish liver and kidney, improve eyesight and blacken hair, and treat dizziness and tinnitus, soreness of waist and knees, premature gray hair and blurred vision. Ligustrum lucidum is also a fine wood material, with fine materials.
