The historical evolution of Shaolong Temple in Jinyun Mountain, Chongqing

Shaolong Temple was built in the Yisi Year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty (1485) and has a history of more than 500 years. Speaking of the origin of "Shaolong", we must mention Jielong Bridge. A stone's throw north of Shaolong Temple, there is a deep ditch. On the ditch wall are the three words "Jielong Bridge" carved on ancient stone. According to legend, Huangdi Xuanyuan built a bridge here to continue the dragon vein of Bashan Mountain in order to make the Ba people live and work in peace and contentment.

In 1485 AD, thunder broke the bridge, flash floods broke out, and the keel of Bashan shook. Immortals moved a temple to the bridgehead and named it "Shaolong", which means to continue the dragon's veins. So the temple was named "Shaolong". During the Anti-Japanese War, the then abbot Master Longshu resolutely donated all the temple property to the World Red Cross in order to save war orphans and protect and run schools, and it was established as the "Beiquan Salesian Home". The Salesian Home is headed by Ms. Zhou Zhilian, one of the Four Great Educators, and has adopted more than a thousand children in need. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the temple property was severely damaged during the "Cultural Revolution Period". On March 13, 1998, with the approval of the Beibei District Government, the foundation stone for the Shaolongguan restoration project was laid. It was officially built in August of that year. It took half a year and was officially opened to the outside world on February 12, 1999. The renovated Shaolong Temple is located at the entrance of Jinyun Mountain Forest, facing east and west, covering an area of ??more than 70 acres. It has three main halls and eight main halls. The building is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces water on one side. On the left side, a clear spring flows into the blue pool. On the east side, there is a wide area that looks like a mountain gate. The temple is surrounded by mountains and clear waters, as if it is sitting on a Taishi chair built by mountains and rivers. It is very Taoist. The admirable one leans on the left with a green dragon and on the right with a white tiger. There are auspicious clouds flying above and a fairyland atmosphere of rippling blue waves below.

In the view, there are towering ancient trees such as ginkgo, osmanthus, and camphor, as well as rare plants such as acacia, arhat, and cypress. There is a couplet in the original ancient temple that says: "The mountains are like jasper, the water is like ink, the clouds are in the blue sky, and the moon is in the pines." This shows that its natural style is charming. Reconstruction began in March 1998 and was officially opened to the public in February 1999. The Taoist temple is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces water on one side. On the left side, a clear spring flows into Jianchi. On the east side, there is a wide area that looks like a mountain gate. It looks like it is sitting on a Taishi chair framed by mountains and clear water. Inside the temple, there are towering ancient trees such as pine, ginkgo, camphor and osmanthus, as well as rare plants such as acacia, eucalyptus and other rare plants. The renovated Taoist temple covers an area of ??more than 30 acres, and more than 8 million yuan has been spent to build the main body of the temple such as the Ling Palace, the Jade Emperor Palace, the Fortune Palace, the Yuan Chen Palace, the Cihang Palace, the Sanqing Palace, the Shanmen Archway, the Tea Gallery, and the Incense Room. , fully displaying the Taoist series of culture - Taoist banquet, Taoist tea, Taoist gong, and Taoist method.

In 2000, President Min Zhiting of the China Taoist Association came to inspect and gave important instructions on the construction of our Taoist style. "The temple has a new look. You can look up at the majestic palace and the seal smoke is lingering. The scenery is more beautiful, and you can see the green pine forest and the luxuriant herbs." After reconstruction, the Shaolong Taoist Temple is now full of youthful vitality. It is not only an important place for religious activities in Bayu, but also a major cultural landscape in Chongqing.
