The condition of a good stump
The conditions for a good stump are as follows:

Prevent joint contracture and deformity of residual limbs. Because some muscles are cut off after amputation, it will cause muscle strength imbalance and joint contracture. Such as hip flexion, hip abduction, knee flexion and ankle plantar flexion, the results will affect the alignment of the prosthesis.

Therefore, after operation, bad postures such as raising the affected part on the back, doing thigh abduction with perineal pillow, sitting in a wheelchair for a long time, and lifting the residual limb with wooden crutches should be avoided. After operation, the joint should be placed in functional position, and early functional exercise should be carried out to make the joint flexible and deformity-free.

Postoperative surgical trauma, insufficient muscle contractility and venous reflux disorder will all cause edema of residual limbs. This edema is temporary, and it can be relieved after the circulation of the stump is established, which usually takes 3-6 months. However, the use of elastic bandages and reasonable dressing of residual limbs can reduce edema and promote stereotypes.

In recent years, immdia——tate prostheis has been adopted internationally, that is, on the operating table, after amputation, the amputee can put on a temporary prosthesis and get out of bed to practice walking or do other functional training one or two days after operation. This method not only greatly encourages amputees psychologically.

In order to speed up the setting of residual limb and reduce phantom limb pain and other pains, CET (controlled environment therapy) is also adopted. After the operation, put the stump without any bandage into a transparent airbag connected to the air conditioner to practice walking. The pressure in the container can be adjusted and changed to make the residual limb contract and set, so as to achieve the early setting of the residual limb.

The skin in the receiving cavity is easy to cause eczema, skin pigmentation, abrasion, ulcer, infection, blisters, bursa, allergic dermatitis and so on due to pressure, friction and temperature change. To enhance the skin's resistance, physical therapy can be done if possible. Wash the stump with soap before going to bed every day. If special nursing liquid and lotion for residual limb are used, the effect of preventing bacteria and diminishing inflammation of residual limb will be better.
