A native of Shenyang, Liaoning Province. Graduated from the Horticulture Department of Beijing Agricultural University (now renamed China Agricultural University) in April 1961. From 1961 to 197 and from 1978 to now, he worked in the Fruit Research Institute of China Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and from 197 to 1978, he worked in the Fruit Research Institute of Shaanxi Province. He used to be the director of the cultivation room of the Fruit Research Institute of China Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Practical Technology and Information of Fruit Trees". From 199 to 1994, he was hired as the second fruit tree consultant by the Ministry of Agriculture, a researcher in 1993, and a consultant of the Fruit Research Institute of China Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the chief consultant of the fruit and seedling quality supervision, inspection and testing center of the Ministry of Agriculture in 1996. In 1993, he received special government allowance from the State Council.
