Deep brain electrode implantation is to regulate the activity of nerve cells in the brain by micro-current stimulation, so as to improve the brain function of patients, commonly known as brain pacemaker. At present, deep brain electrode implantation is a mature top technology in the world, which is widely used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Although this technology has only been applied to the treatment of cerebral palsy for one or two years, it is mature and reliable. At present, only a few hospitals in China can carry out this technology.
Because of tendon contracture and bone deformation caused by muscle spasm, a second operation may be needed. Therefore, cerebral palsy should be diagnosed early. If cerebral palsy patients need deep brain electrode implantation, they should be treated as soon as possible after their condition is stable (generally 9~ 10 years old) to avoid muscle spasm.
It is understood that deep brain electrode implantation is not only technically demanding, but also expensive, about 200,000 yuan. Because electrodes implanted deep in the brain need batteries to work, batteries usually need to be replaced every six to eight years.
