Bougainvillea really can't be cut. If you want it to have a good shape and many flowers, you must pay attention to pruning. Now it grows this thick branch directly from this pole, and there are two main reasons for cutting it.
One reason is that this branch is not helpful to the overall plant shape, because I don't leave any branches in this position. At this position, some branches have grown out and all the branches have been broken. If you leave it and this one, it will destroy the shape of the whole plant. If it looks like this, it won't look good.
Another reason is that this branch is a collapsed branch, because it grows directly from this old pole, so it has the right to give priority to supplying nutrients and water, and its growth rate is particularly fast, which can grow to one or two centimeters or two or three centimeters every day.
In this case, a lot of nutrients and water will be consumed, resulting in the slow growth of these old branches or no new branches at all. Only after cutting, saving nutrition consumption, can the old branches on it grow more new branches and then bloom again as soon as possible.
We raise old bougainvillea. It is suggested to apply as much organic fertilizer as possible, and the organic fertilizer should be decomposed, instead of just applying some quick-acting fertilizer to it. Organic fertilizer has mild effect and long validity period, which is very beneficial to the cultivation of bougainvillea. If too much quick-acting fertilizer is applied to this old bougainvillea, once the branches and leaves on it grow white, the whole plant will be ugly.
Look at my bougainvillea. Just last winter, I applied some decomposed sheep manure to it. Now there are some sheep dung particles on it. Because of the heavy rain, this old bougainvillea has applied some quick-acting fertilizer before.
I'm going to fertilize it with sesame cake today. When autumn comes, I will bury some decomposed sheep manure and organic fertilizer. It is very good to prevent soil from hardening and to raise roots.
If you also have an old bougainvillea, you must remember to trim the branches in time, and often apply some decomposed organic fertilizer to it, so that the plant shape will be more beautiful.
