The carapace is slightly raised, with serrated edges on the back, which is square and dark in color. The shape of the carapace is generally narrow at the front and wide at the back. The width of the third spine guard plate is not more than one third of the width of the whole carapace, which is narrower than that of the second rib guard plate. The length of the front page of the abdominal nail should not exceed 40% of its dorsal nail. The head is short, the snout is slightly pointed, and the upper and lower jaws usually have black stripes. Generally, the carapace of larvae is black or dark brown, and it turns brown and grayish brown in adulthood. The carapace is generally black, red, orange or with red and orange spots. The larvae of this subspecies are fearless, active, relatively docile and cold-resistant.
