The new museum is located at No.2556, Jingyue Street, Changchun City, Jilin Province, adjacent to Jingyuetan National Forest Park. The venue covers an area of 54,000 square meters, with a building area of14,700 square meters, an exhibition hall area of 6,000 square meters and a warehouse area of 3,000 square meters. The new museum was officially opened to the public on May 6, 2007.

General situation of venues

On May 9th, 20001year, Northeast Normal University decided to establish the Natural History Museum of Northeast Normal University, thus forming two museums with their own characteristics.
The collection of Jilin Natural Museum mainly reflects the natural environmental resources of Jilin Province, and there are also a certain number of national key protected animals distributed outside the province. The collection of specimens comes from collection, exchange, collection, donation and investigation. Among the specimens of animals and plants, there are 598 species of animals and plants protected by the state at the first and second levels; Including Asian elephants, Siberian tigers, red-crowned cranes, merganser ducks, butterflies and other precious specimens.
Among the many fossil specimens in the museum, the Quaternary mammalian fossils in Northeast China, which reflect the mammoth-pilose rhinoceros fauna, are the mainstream collections. At the same time, there are precious fossils from "Jehol Biota" in Chaoyang, Liaoning Province, including complete mammoth, hairy rhinoceros, original bovine fossil skeleton and loong fish fossil. Precious specimens in the museum also include Dehui meteorite. The characteristic soil samples in the sample set are full profile samples and stratified standard soil samples of nearly 200 typical soils in Jilin Province.
Jilin Natural Museum has 6 floors, which are divided into 7 permanent exhibition areas: the Soul of Mountain, the Rhyme of Forest, Butterfly Valley, the Spirit of Birds, the Interest of Animals, the Fossil World and Mammoths. In addition, there are hands-on production, multimedia games, rock climbing to enhance courage, glass bridge to overcome acrophobia, and hatching of birds' eggs to meet psychological exploration. Outside the museum, a plant maze, a weather station and a crop garden were designed.

Permanent exhibition
-The soul of the mountain-
The Mountain Soul Exhibition Area takes the majestic Changbai Mountain, the most distinctive natural landscape in Jilin Province, as the background, and uses simulation technology to simulate the ecological environment of Changbai Mountain. By showing the natural landscape belt of Changbai Mountain, the exhibition makes the audience sigh that "one mountain is divided into four seasons and ten miles are different".
The famous Changbai Mountain is the pride of the people in Jilin Province and the support of the living environment of the people in the three northeastern provinces for generations. It preserves the most abundant wildlife resources in the northern half of Eurasia and is the only unspoiled natural complex in the world.
Due to its unique geographical conditions, the specimen collection of Jilin Provincial Natural Museum mainly reflects the natural conditions of Changbai Mountain, including relatively complete specimens of butterflies, birds, mammals, medicinal plants, soil and other natural specimens at home and abroad.
-Lin Zhiyun-
With its unique open display, the Lin Zhiyun exhibition area creates a unique atmosphere of "enjoying birds and beasts in the forest". There is also a large screen projection in the exhibition, which shows the scenery and culture of Tianchi Lake in Changbai Mountain even more shockingly.
Butterfly Valley
The Butterfly Valley exhibition area displays more than 300 kinds and 600 kinds of precious and beautiful butterfly specimens from all over the world, among which there are many butterflies from all over the world. The exhibition is divided into butterfly life, butterfly and moth, butterfly culture and other sections, and the life of butterfly can be vividly displayed through the sound control phantom.

By creating a realistic natural environment, the bird spirit exhibition area makes rare bird and beast specimens lifelike, and then reflects the unique vigorous posture and graceful posture of birds and beasts. Through explanation and multimedia inquiry, the exhibition lets the audience know the specimens and the stories behind them.
-Animal interests-
Mammals are the general name of mammals and the advanced groups in the natural animal kingdom. Because there are all kinds of animals living on the earth, only mammals and birds are warm-blooded animals with constant temperature. At present, there are more than 4000 kinds of animals living on the earth, and human beings are also one of the primates.
-Fossil world-
The exhibition area of Fossil World is divided into four display units: Fossil, Dinosaur Age, Quaternary extinct animals in Northeast China and Exploration Corner. The exhibition takes the form of precious fossils, dynamic reduction of dinosaurs and shocking 3D movies. Let the audience get familiar with fossils, understand the course of life and gain knowledge in pleasure.
In the dinosaur skeleton area in the center of the exhibition hall, three of the four dinosaur skeletons are from Sichuan, China-they are the skeletons of Hechuan Yongchuan Dragon, Tuojiang Dragon and Mamenxilong, three famous dinosaurs that lived in the late Jurassic/kloc-0.5 billion years ago.
mammoth
Mammoths were giants in the ice age, which were widely distributed in the northern hemisphere cold zone, including northeast China. The exhibition hall reproduces the burial place of mammoths. Mammoths' skulls, front teeth, mandibles and spines are all buried in the soil. Walking into the "exploration corner", we can understand the whole process of discovery, excavation, repair, restoration and construction of large vertebrate fossils by watching the images. The exhibition area shows three mammoth fossil skeletons unearthed in this area, which gives the audience an intuitive understanding of the local prehistoric animals.

Temporary exhibition
Since its establishment, Jilin Provincial Museum of Natural History has held temporary exhibitions such as Changbai Mountain scenery, dare to buy when approaching elephants, Chinese merganser photography exhibition, colorful spring flowers, natural language-phenology, flowers and flowers.
-People's hero Yang Jingyu-
The exhibition "People's Hero Yang Jingyu" is sponsored by the Party History Research Office of Jilin Provincial Party Committee and Jilin Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and created by Zhao Mingren, a special painter and famous ice and snow painter in the Great Hall of the People, and his team. The total length of this group of paintings is108m, which is the first time in China to depict the glorious image of Yang Jingyu, a people's hero, in the form of a 100-meter scroll of ice and snow ink.
