If the branches are not pruned properly in winter and are too long and dense, it will lead to overgrowth of branches, poor growth, rapid rise of flowering parts, small flowering period, easy occurrence of diseases and pests, and great damage after re-pruning, which is unfavorable to the growth and development of plants.
Therefore, in winter plastic pruning, heavy pruning (commonly known as "decapitation") must be carried out, that is, all branches above 15 cm are cut off, and then other dead branches, diseased branches, twigs, cross branches and overlapping branches are pruned. Generally, 2 ~ 4 properly distributed main branches are selected. This concentration of nutrition can make the next year blossom plump and huge, fully showing the characteristics of varieties.
Through our introduction, I believe everyone has a deeper understanding of why potted roses should be pruned in winter.
