Reasonable pruning method of osmanthus bonsai

1. Reasonable Pruning Principle of Osmanthus fragrans bonsai When pruning, we should adjust the messy cross branches, overlapping branches, parallel branches and opposite branches, that is, cut off one of them or sparse one of them. For the remaining branches, they can grow thick because of the concentration of nutrients. When the cultured branches grow to a suitable thickness, they are pruned to shorten and produce a second branch. When the second branch grows to a suitable thickness, cut it again. In the future, the second and fourth branches will do the same. Generally, two branchlets are left on each branch. Branchlets are long and short. After years of pruning, the branches are short and thick, vigorous and powerful, and gradually form the required tree shape.

Pruning osmanthus trees includes picking, pruning, thinning and damage. Picking means picking hearts and leaves. In the growing period, the tender shoot at the top of the new shoot is removed, which is called coring. Picking the core can promote the growth of axillary buds, produce more branches and inhibit the high growth, which is beneficial to the beauty of bonsai (Figure 5-5); Picking leaves means removing some leaves, which can promote the germination of new leaves. Cutting is to cut short the branches of the current year. After cutting short, the medium and short branches increase and the mother branches become thicker. The so-called sparse branch scissors, the branches cut out are relatively dense, which is conducive to branch modeling. Thinning refers to thinning, which cuts off too dense branches from the base, which is conducive to improving ventilation and light transmission conditions and promoting the vigorous growth of the remaining branches. It is a despicable injury to girdle, twist, tip and hold branches on the branches of osmanthus trees. This method can be used to promote flowering of osmanthus bonsai.

2. Pruning of Osmanthus bonsai cultivation period The so-called cultivation period refers to the period from bonsai osmanthus trees to modeling, pruning, planting to processing and molding. The length of this period is related to the modeling method. If it is to be processed into a natural tree shape, the cultivation period will be shorter after shaping and pruning. If you use the method of branch storage and trunk cutting to shape, it will take a long time. Because branches have to be pruned many times before they can be shaped, it takes months or even a year to prune them twice.

After shaping and pruning, the trunk and main branches of osmanthus bonsai cultivated with stumps have been determined. What needs further treatment and pruning are secondary branches and thinner tertiary branches. The basic points to be mastered in the processing and pruning of these branches are: a branch must have a certain degree of twists and turns, and each branch must have a length to be beautiful.

The pruning of branches should also pay attention to the bud of branches. According to the modeling requirements, firstly, axillary buds are selected; secondly, alternate buds are determined according to the branching direction; thirdly, long branches with long internodes are generally cut off, and one branch is cut off.

3. Pruning of Osmanthus fragrans bonsai during viewing period refers to pruning of Osmanthus fragrans bonsai after molding, so as to preserve and maintain the beautiful shape of Osmanthus fragrans. This pruning is long-term and large-scale, and must be carried out carefully.

As an ornamental flower, osmanthus bonsai should be pruned vigorously after the flower fails. Generally, only 2 ~ 3 buds are left on the branches, and the branches should be cut short. New buds that grow from branches in spring and summer should be removed in time if the shape is not needed. Generally, when branches are 20 cm long and individual branches are about 30 cm long, the top of branches should be cut off and the length of branches should be controlled to facilitate flower bud differentiation.
