To make bonsai with black pine, it is necessary to prune the needle clusters and branches, and usually pull out the leaves once a year 1-2 times to make the needles shorter and the leaves more compact. Most leaves are plucked from March to September, and most of the first leaves are plucked in March. When the old leaves are pulled out, 2-4 stitches can be left for the strong branches and more stitches for the weak branches.
The second leaf pulling should be carried out around September. This leaf pulling treatment should be coordinated with the first leaf pulling, and all the leaves that were not pulled out last time should be pulled out to promote the growth of new leaves. Special attention should be paid not to pull out all the leaves or knock out the bud eyes, otherwise it will affect the photosynthesis of black and lead to poor growth.
In addition to pulling leaves, cutting buds is also one of the important means to shape black pine. Bud grafting is usually carried out after the branches are mature. Most areas cut buds from June to July, but the temperature in different areas is quite different, and the specific time of cutting buds depends on the growth of black pine.
Ensure sufficient water and fertilizer supply before bud cutting, and enhance the tree potential so as not to affect the subsequent growth. Bud cutting depends on the size of bonsai. Large and medium-sized black pine bonsai 1.5-2 cm is enough, and small bonsai 1 cm is the most suitable. After a week of growth, it is necessary to spray the mixture of stone and sulfur, which is beneficial to wound healing and avoid getting sick.
