How is the protrusion around the navel?
If the umbilical cord of the newborn has naturally fallen off, the protruding navel will slowly tighten. It will take several months. But in the case you described, it should be the navel.

The baby's navel bulges, which is medically called umbilical hernia. When the baby coughs and cries to increase the intra-abdominal pressure, there is a prominent spherical or hemispherical lump at the navel. This mass is a hernia caused by the development defect of abdominal wall muscle and aponeurosis in navel, which makes peritoneum and other tissues protrude from navel ring. If you press it gently with your hand, you can return to the abdominal cavity.

Most children's umbilical hernia can heal naturally within 1 year.

If the baby is still like this after 6 months, we should take some simple measures at home to accelerate the healing of umbilical hernia.

1. Press the navel with a coin (first lining a soft cloth on the skin) or a convex surface of a table tennis ball and fix it, so that the navel will no longer protrude, which can accelerate its healing.

2. Cut two tapes with a width of 4 cm into pull tapes, and cut off one third on both sides of one end of one tape to make it pass through the hole cut on the other tape. Before sticking the adhesive tape, apply benzoic acid tincture on the skin to protect the skin, then stick the adhesive tape on both sides of the navel, and then tighten the two adhesive tapes and change them once every half month. The purpose of this is to make the navel sink and close the defects of umbilical hernia together, which is beneficial to the healing of umbilical hernia. This method usually takes about 3 months to get results.

If the umbilical hernia cannot be improved by these two methods, it should be corrected by surgery.
