How to prune magnolia?
The natural branches of Magnolia grandiflora are relatively neat, and the crown is generally round-headed. In the garden, young trees mostly adopt natural cone shape, and when they grow up, they change to natural round head shape. Magnolia grandiflora branches have poor healing ability and are generally pruned less. However, in order to maintain a beautiful crown shape, facilitate ventilation and light transmission, and promote good flower bud differentiation, it can be trimmed appropriately. Pruning period is from flowering to a large number of buds, pruning dead branches, over-dense branches, thin and redundant branches, parallel branches and long branches, and removing roots and tillers at any time at ordinary times. When pruning, the middle branches and short branches shorter than 15cm are generally not cut, and the long branches are cut short at 12 ~ 15 cm, and the cutting mouth should be smooth and slightly inclined, and the cutting mouth should be not less than 5mm away from the bud. For branches that grow too long and too old, they should be pruned in time to revitalize the tree.
