Originated in tropical areas of western Africa. It was introduced to China in 1960s and cultivated in Yunnan, Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian. The mysterious fruit is evergreen shrub or small tree. The plant height is 2 ~ 4m, the crown is steamed bread-shaped, the stems and branches are grayish brown, the branches are low, and there are many branches, which are short and dense. The new shoots are dark green to reddish, the leaves are oblanceolate or obovate, and most clustered branches are alternate, each branch has 5 ~ 7 leaves, which are thin and slightly wavy. Flowers axillary, solitary or clustered, very small, white, and bear green oval berries after flowering. They can blossom and bear fruit all year round in the country of origin, but it usually takes only 3-4 weeks from flowering to bearing fruit. In most parts of southern China, there are also two obvious flowering and fruiting periods every year. The first time is February-March, the fruit ripens in April-May, the second time is April-May, and the fruit ripens in June-July.
The propagation methods of mysterious fruit include seed propagation, cutting propagation, high pressure propagation and so on. Seed propagation is the main method. Mysterious fruit is suitable for planting in areas with annual average temperature of about 265,438 0.5℃, annual rainfall of 65,438 500mm, slightly acidic or neutral soil, deep and fertile soil layer and good drainage. When the lowest temperature is 3 ~ 5℃ in winter, leaves and shoots will be cold-damaged, but not fatal. Most parts of China need to keep warm for the winter. Slightly acidic sandy soil should be selected for ground planting, and good drainage should be maintained to prevent plants from falling leaves gradually until they die because of excessive soil moisture. Coarse sand, carbonized rice husk, artificial soil, coconut bran, etc. It should be used as the substrate of potted plants, and the pH value should be 4.5 ~ 5.8. To cultivate mysterious fruit, we should choose bag seedlings or pot seedlings with vigorous growth, developed roots and no pests and diseases, and the suitable planting period is spring or before the rainy season. Apply sufficient base fertilizer before planting, and water the roots after planting, and pay attention to keep the soil moist to prevent water accumulation in rainy season. Topdressing after survival should adhere to the principle of "small amount and multiple times, thin fertilizer should be applied frequently". Young trees should mainly use available nitrogen fertilizer, twice a month/kloc-0, and adult trees should mainly use organic fertilizer, combined with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and can cooperate with intertillage to loosen soil. April-August is the appropriate time to change pots every year. Pruning requires different pruning methods according to different periods of new shoots, such as pulling branches, supporting branches, topping, etc. So as to increase the crown width of the tree, reduce the height of the tree and sprout more useful branches, and then cut off the redundant, crowded and useless branches, so that the tree can be fixed at the early stage of fruiting. Mature trees should be shaped by trees, not limited to a certain fixed pattern. As long as the inside and outside of the tree are ventilated and the branches at all levels are evenly and orderly distributed, the strong can be suppressed and the weak can be helped.
Mysterious fruits can be planted in the ground to eat, or in the yard and on the road. Generally, it will blossom and bear fruit after 3-4 years of planting. Seven-year-old plants can bear more than 1000 fruits and can also be potted for viewing. Because of its bright and beautiful fruit, slow plant growth, good branch elasticity, pruning resistance and good ornamental effect, it is deeply loved by people.
