A hammer is a tool that strikes an object to make it move or deform. A hammer consists of a hammer head and a handle. According to the material of the hammer head, the hammer is divided into steel (iron) hammer and soft-headed hammer.
Second, the purpose of the hammer
Hammer, also known as hammer or hand hammer, belongs to hammering tools. It is mainly used for hammering tools such as edge trimmers, punching machines, etc. or knocking workpieces to deform, displace and vibrate them, so as to achieve the purpose of correction and shaping.
Hammer can be divided into round head hammer, square hammer and sheet metal hammer. According to the shape of the hammer head, the hammer can be divided into hammer head, soft-faced hammer (wood hammer, rubber hammer, plastic hammer) and so on.
The specifications of a hammer are generally expressed by its mass, such as 0.25kg, 0.5kg, lkg.
Third, how to use the woodworking hammer?
1, selection of hammer handle
Most hammers are equipped with handles at the time of purchase. If you choose to install the handle yourself, pay attention to the thickness of the handle and the size of the hammer. The center line of the hammer should be perpendicular to the center line of the hammer, and the direction of the maximum elliptical diameter of the hammer should be consistent with the center line of the hammer.
2. Hammer grip
(1) grip method: Hold the hammer handle with five fingers of the right hand, fold the thumb on the index finger, align the jaws with the direction of the hammer head (the long axis direction of the ellipse of the wooden handle), and the tail end of the wooden handle is exposed 15 ~ 30 mm ... During the process of hammering and swinging, the five fingers always hold the hammer handle tightly.
(2) Loosen the grip: only the thumb and forefinger always hold the hammer handle, and the other three fingers are loosened in the order of little finger, ring finger and middle finger when swinging the hammer; When knocking at the door, they close and hold in the opposite order. The advantage of this method is that the hands are not easily tired and the knocking force is large. Don't hold the hammer handle too close to the hammer head, try to be close to the handle end, because it will be more labor-saving and flexible when hitting.
3. Pendulum method
In practice, there are three hammering methods according to the different requirements of the machined workpiece for hammering force.
(1) Wrist swing: When swinging the hammer, only the action of the wrist is used for hammering, and the hammering force is small. The hammer holding method is generally suitable for machining work that requires less hammer force.
(2) Elbow Swing: When swinging a hammer, the wrist and elbow swing together to complete the hammering action, and the knocking force is relatively strong. Hold the hammer loosely, which is a common method of swinging the hammer.
(3) Swing arm: When swinging a hammer, the wrist, elbow and arm act together, and the hammer head passes behind the ear, and the hammering force is the greatest. It is suitable for work that requires a large hammering force.
This method is laborious and difficult to master, but as long as you master the swing arm, the other two methods will be easy to master.
Four, the hammer use matters needing attention
1, before use, make sure that the surface and handle of the hammer are free of oil stains, so as to avoid the hammer slipping from the hand during use, causing personal injury and object damage.
2. Before use, check whether the handle is installed firmly and whether there is any cracking phenomenon, so as to prevent the hammer from coming out and causing an accident. If the hammer is loose, you can wedge it up. If the handle is cracked or damaged, it should be replaced with a new handle immediately, and it is forbidden to continue using it.
3. When using a hammer, keep your eyes on the workpiece, and the surface of the hammer should be parallel to the working surface, so as to ensure that the surface of the hammer hits the workpiece smoothly and without skew, so as not to damage the surface shape of the workpiece and prevent the hammer from being biased, causing personal injury and equipment damage.
It is very dangerous to use a hammer with damaged appearance. During impact, the metal on the hammer may fly out, causing an accident. When hammering baskets, punching machines and other tools with a hammer, you must wear protective glasses.
