The Institute of Dermatology of China Academy of Medical Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "Nanjing Institute of Dermatology") was established in Beijing on 1954. Formerly known as the Central Institute of Dermatology and Venereology, it was directly under the leadership of the Central Ministry of Health and moved to Nanjing on 1984. It is the earliest national professional institution engaged in dermatology, venereal disease and leprosy in China, which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and prevention.

The hospital has Nanjing Cardiopulmonary Vascular Disease Research Center, Nanjing Geriatric Hospital, Nanjing Orthopedic Medical Center, Nanjing Clinical Laboratory Center and Nanjing Eye, Otolaryngology Hospital. In 20 16, the hospital was approved to set up Post-Doctoral Research Center, and academician Han Demin, a leading scholar of otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery in China, was introduced. It has renal dialysis treatment laboratory, clinical trial quality control laboratory and the only tuberculosis gene diagnosis center laboratory in Nanjing. Rehabilitation medicine is a special specialty of urban medicine. According to the multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment model, the hospital has three diagnosis and treatment centers: heart center, orthopedic center and respiratory center. The hospital adheres to the service concept of "patient-centered", and the three centers implement a new service model of "doctors around patients".
