What does spdif interface mean?
S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) is a digital audio output interface jointly developed by Sony and Philips. Widely used in CDs, sound cards and household appliances. Its main function is to improve the sound quality of CD and give us a more pure auditory effect.

PDIF has two kinds of ports: input and output, among which the input interface is relatively rare. There is usually an S/PDIF output port in some notebook computers that emphasize multimedia performance. Through this port, combined with playing software (such as PowerDVD) that supports S/PDIF sound effects, a more realistic and shocking sound output effect can be obtained.

Extended data

As far as transmission modes are concerned, SPDIF can be divided into two types: output type (SPDIF output) and input type (SPDIF input). At present, most sound card chips can support SPDIF output, but not every product will provide digital interface.

There are relatively few sound card chips supporting SPDIF IN, such as EMU 10K 1, YMF-744, FM80 1-AU, CMI8738, etc. The typical application of SPDIF in sound card is CD SPDIF, but not every sound card supporting SPDIF provides this interface.
