Pruning of fruiting branches: the number of fruiting branches is related to varieties, tree vigor and tree age. After pruning in winter, the branch spacing of fruiting branches is generally kept at 10 ~ 20cm. The varieties of the northern variety group are mainly short fruit branches, which can be properly spaced; The varieties of the southern variety group are mainly medium-long fruit branches, which can be properly thinned.
Results The cutting length of branches should be determined according to the length of branches, planting location and fruit setting rate of varieties. Generally, 5 ~ 8 flower buds are cut from long fruit branches. When the branches are too dense, the upright branches become thinner and the inclined branches become flat. Note that the distribution of branches should not be "head-to-head" and staggered in length, and pay attention to retaining branches; Generally, 3 ~ 5 flower buds are cut from the middle fruit branch, and the cut flower buds leave leaf buds; Short fruit branches and bouquetlike fruit branches are generally only sparse; The fruiting branches with low seed setting rate and vigorous growth can produce several good fruiting branches after short cutting, which are often combined with summer pruning to cultivate fruiting branches.
In branch pruning, there are two methods to cultivate preparatory branches, one is called double branch regeneration, that is, two fruiting branches with similar bases are selected from the mother branches, and the upper branches are pruned according to the fruiting branches to make them bear fruit, while the lower branches are pruned only with two buds at the base to produce two new branches to form the fruiting branches in the next year. In winter, the branches that have already borne fruit above will be thinned, and the two new branches below will still be pruned according to the previous year. The upper branch will bear fruit, and the lower branch will cut two buds, so as to maintain one fruit every year. Another method is called single branch regeneration, that is, the robust medium-long fruit branches are cut properly to make them bear 2-3 fruits and extract robust new shoots. In winter, the upper branches are removed, and some strong new branches are cut off again to maintain the balance between fruit and growth. When pruning, if the growth of backbone branches is unbalanced, we can use heavy pruning of strong branches, light pruning of weak branches, weak buds of strong branches, open angles of strong branches, and rising angles of weak branches, and adopt means such as supporting, pulling and hanging, combined with local fertilization in the following year, so as to gradually balance the tree potential.
