Part 1: Treatment of chapped lips
1, lip balm. Choose a simple beeswax lip balm or a lipstick with sunscreen function. Lipstick can resist the weather damage to lips, so don't forget to apply it on dry, sunny or windy days. Lip balm can also heal cleft lip and prevent infection. Lipstick should be applied before going out and after eating and drinking. If it disappears, it should be reapplied in time. If you have the habit of licking your lips, avoid using scented lipstick. You can choose products that are difficult to import with SPF.
Do not use canned lipstick. Repeated finger contact with cream will breed bacteria and may infect chapped lips.
In windy weather, wrap your lips with a headscarf to avoid stimulation during healing.
2. Don't bite your lips. It is tempting to tear the chapped dander or bitten lips, but it will also hurt the lips during the healing process. Bite lips can irritate the skin and cause bleeding, slow down healing and may lead to infection. If you do this often, it will also cause cold sores. Don't exfoliate chapped lips. Treat lip skin gently during the healing process. Falling off may lead to infection.
3. Treat by hydrating. Lack of water is a common cause of chapped lips. Drink plenty of water and apply moisturizing products. Mild lip cracking can be cured by drinking water for several hours, and the more serious the situation, the longer it takes. Drink water in time when eating, before and after exercise and when you feel thirsty. Water shortage is especially common in winter. Don't use a dryer to keep warm indoors, you can also use a humidifier.
4. See a doctor. If your lips are red, tingling and inflamed, you may have cheilitis. Panniculitis is caused by inflammation or infection of the lips. When the lips crack to a certain extent, cracks will appear, and bacteria will invade and cause cheilitis. The doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory ointment or antifungal ointment for you until you are cured. Lip licking is a common cause of cheilitis, especially in children. Panniculitis is one of the symptoms of contact dermatitis. If you are prone to rash, you can consult your doctor about the possibility of contact dermatitis.
Panniculitis can be divided into acute and chronic.
Some drugs, medicines and supplements can increase the risk of cheilitis. One of the most common is retinoid. Others include lithium, high doses of vitamins A and D-? Penicillamine, isoniazid, phenothiazine and chemotherapy drugs busulfan and actinomycin.
Chapped lips are also symptoms of many diseases, including autoimmune diseases (such as lupus and Crohn's disease), thyroid diseases and psoriasis.
People with Down syndrome usually have chapped lips.
Part 2: prevention of lip cracking
1, stop licking your lips. When you feel dry lips, you will subconsciously lick your lips to moisten them. Unfortunately, this will be counterproductive, because licking the lips will take away the natural oil of the lips, leading to dryness and chapping. When you realize that you are licking your lips, apply lip balm in time. If you can't help licking all the time, you can consult a doctor and ask him to recommend a clinical expert or professional consultant to you. Obsessive licking, biting and chewing lips may be symptoms of many diseases, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and repetitive behaviors of body concentration (BFRB). Always apply lip balm to remind yourself not to lick, bite or chew your lips. Choose an unpleasant lipstick with a sun protection factor.
Children aged 7- 15 are more likely to suffer from cheilitis caused by lip licking.
2. Breathe through your nose. Breathing through your mouth will dry your lips. If you are used to breathing through your mouth, practice breathing through your nose and get into the habit. Sit still for a few minutes every day and breathe through your nose and mouth. Try to open the nasal cavity with a nasal dilator when sleeping.
3. Eliminate allergens. Keep allergens and pigments away from your mouth. Even a slight food allergy can cause chapped lips. If chapped lips are accompanied by other symptoms, such as digestive problems or rash, you should consult a doctor. If it is difficult to determine the cause, you can ask the doctor to recommend an allergist to you. Check the ingredients of lip balm. Avoid ingredients that make you allergic, such as artificial red pigment.
Some people are allergic to p-aminobenzoic acid, and most sunscreen lip balms contain this ingredient. If you feel swollen throat or shortness of breath, please stop using it immediately and call the emergency number.
4. Hydration and prevention. The best way to prevent chapped lips is to pretend that you already have this symptom. Drink water every meal, keep a glass of water at hand and drink it when you are thirsty. Apply lip balm before going out or when using the heater. Cover your face when it is windy in winter, and use lip balm with sunscreen function on sunny days. Unless you are training yourself not to lick your lips, there is no need to apply lip balm every day. If you don't want to apply it all the time, you can only use it when it is windy or sunny.
Warning If you find abnormal bleeding or infection in your lips, you must seek medical attention immediately.
