Jade tea, also known as imperial tea, is customarily called Haiqing green tea (the same below) because it is produced in Haiqing Town, Jiaonan City.
Haiqing green tea is made from fresh buds and leaves of tea trees in mountainous areas without any pollution. In accordance with national food hygiene standards, it undergoes multiple processes including sorting, spreading, greening, rolling, drying, picking, and shaping. It is a pure natural high-end health drink with the characteristics of "green color, mellow aroma, fresh taste and beautiful shape". Haiqing green tea is famous all over the country for its unique local flavor. It has been identified by the Northern Tea Research Center of Shandong Province as the only "Northern Tea Research Base" in Qingdao, and has been identified as the "Hometown of Qingdao Tea" by Qingdao City. After random inspections by the Tea Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, all products met the pollution-free requirements. It has won the China International Agricultural Exposition Gold Medal, the National "China Tea Cup" Award, the Qingdao Green Tea Award, and the first "Top Ten" Tourism Products in Jiaonan City. In October 2005, in the sixth "China Tea Cup" National Famous Tea Competition, 46 samples of Haiqing green tea were selected and 37 won awards, accounting for 80.4% of the total number of awards in Qingdao. Among them, 5 tea samples won special prizes, the only ones in the province, and 3 tea samples ranked 3rd, 4th and 6th in the country respectively. Another 21 tea samples won the first prize and 11 won the high quality award. . At the Mongolian International Economic and Trade Ordering Fair, Haiqing green tea was bought by Patisha Craig, general manager of the American Village Friends Crafts Trading Company, at a price of US$20,000 per kilogram.
