Processing method of herring stone:
First, remove impurities: herring stone is actually equivalent to herring teeth and has a heavy fishy smell. The surface of herring stone just taken out is still covered with some mucus, and it must be cleaned before processing.
To remove impurities, it is advisable to add water to the disinfectant and make it into liquid according to the ratio of 1: 10. Put the herring stone in, let it stand for 2 hours, take it out, put it in a cool and ventilated place, dry it, and then gently rub its surface with a bristle brush a few times, and the surface of the herring stone will be clean without foreign matter and odor.
Second, rough grinding: there are cracked layers and pumice on the surface of herring stone, and some herring stones are irregular and unsightly. Before processing, it should be polished clean, and the appearance should be polished to an ideal state to facilitate the next process. Generally, the coarsest sandpaper of 240 mesh is used. Because herring stones are generally small, in order to save sandpaper, you can fold sandpaper and tear it into small pieces and polish it in turn.
When polishing, it should be heavy before light. If the surface of herring stone is too dry, you can dip it in some water to prevent dust from flying. In this step, an automatic grinder can also be used. Because the grinding wheel runs faster, it must be lightly ground to prevent the herring stone from being worn.
Third, carving: small herring stone is too small to be carved, so it can be directly polished and made into pendants or bracelets. Large herring stones can be carved and shaped. There are two kinds of sculpture: relief and sculpture. The sculptor uses a hand knife or a power tool knife. According to the required auspicious patterns, he first drew lines on the herring stone with a ballpoint pen, and then carved lifelike animals, figures, flowers, insects and fish with a knife.
