Mild body odor does not require treatment. For those with hyperhidrosis, local hyperhidrosis treatment is the main treatment. For those with severe body odor that affects normal life, surgical treatment can be selected.
Underarm odor is a type of odorous sweating syndrome, commonly known as body odor. Underarm odor is caused by the organic substances in the excretion of the patient's apocrine glands in the armpits that are decomposed by bacteria on the skin surface to produce unsaturated fatty acids and emit odor.
Slight body odor does not require treatment. Bathing frequently, changing clothes and socks frequently, and keeping the local area clean and dry can avoid odor. For patients with hyperhidrosis, local hyperhidrosis is mainly treated, such as topical application of 20% to 25% aluminum trichloride solution, 3% to 5% formalin solution, 0.25% neomycin solution, and local moisturizing. Applying or soaking can sterilize and reduce odor. Non-surgery can only temporarily remove the odor. If the armpit odor is severe and affects normal life, surgical treatment can be selected. Minimally invasive debridement surgery under direct vision with small incision is currently recognized as a radical treatment for underarm odor.
In recent years, studies have also confirmed that local injection of botulinum toxin can reduce sweat gland secretion and reduce or eliminate odor
