Friends who have played the action game "Sengoku Warriors" series published by Koei Corporation of Japan must be very familiar with the name Galaxia (Garcia) who is dressed in a Gothic-style maid outfit. The name Galaxia was her baptismal name when she converted to Christianity. The girl's real name was Akechi Tamako, and her father was a subordinate of Oda Nobunaga, and his official title was Hinata Mori Akechi Mitsuhide.
Akechi Tamako was born in Echizen Province in 1563. At that time, his father Akechi Mitsuhide was struggling to make a living and became an official in the Saito Dosan family with the title of "Viper", a daimyo in Mino Province. The relationship between Mino Country and the neighboring Owari Country was tense. Saito Douzan hoped to reconcile with the "Tiger of Owari" Oda Nobuhide, so he married his daughter Saito Kaicho to Oda Nobunaga.
After Oda Nobhide died of illness, his legitimate son Oda Nobunaga inherited the position of family governor. When he was young, Oda Nobunaga was idle all day long, making troubles everywhere, not observing etiquette, and completely devoid of seriousness. Moreover, Oda Nobunaga liked the Tanegashima fire guns and other Western objects introduced by the Nanman (Portuguese). For the Japanese upper class who valued traditional etiquette, Oda Nobunaga's almost crazy behavior was difficult to tolerate, so Many people call him "Owari the Big Fool".
Saito Douzan was not a kind person. In 1553, he chose to meet his son-in-law at Tomita Shotokuji Temple in order to test whether his son-in-law was really a loser who lost his mind by playing with things. If so, he would replace him and annex Owari. But what is not surprising is that when Oda Nobunaga met his father-in-law, he sat upright in brocade clothes and behaved very dignifiedly. It was only then that Saito Michizan realized that Oda Nobunaga was no ordinary person, and even concluded that his son Saito Yoshiryu would become a slave who led horses and ran errands for Oda Nobunaga in the future. At that time, Akechi Mitsuhide began to get in touch with this outstanding hero.
Later, there was civil strife in Mino. Saito Yoshiryu got rid of his father Saito Douzan and wiped out the Akechi family. Akechi Mitsuhide had no choice but to flee and go to Ashikaga Yoshiaki, the younger brother of the swordsman general Ashikaga Yoshiteru. . Ashikaga Yoshiaki wanted to take back the position of "Shogun" with the help of powerful and famous forces, but Asakura, Uesugi, Takeda and other forces rejected Ashikaga Yoshiaki's request.
Under the persuasion of Akechi Mitsuhide, the leader of Owari Kingdom, Oda Nobunaga, was willing to help Ashikaga Yoshiaki, but there was a condition that Akechi Mitsuhide should serve as an official in the Oda family as a retainer of the Ashikaga family. Ashikaga Yoshiaki Akira agreed to Oda Nobunaga's request. Under Oda Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide was at home. But the relationship between the two soon reached a freezing point due to the murder of Oda Nobunaga.
In 1579, in order to persuade the Hideji brothers who were guarding Yakami Castle to surrender, Akechi Mitsuhide, the commander of the expeditionary army, sent his mother into the city as a hostage. But unexpectedly, Oda Nobunaga executed the Hideji brothers during the surrender ceremony. In retaliation, the defenders of Yashigami Castle also executed Akechi Mitsuhide's mother (one said aunt). From then on, Akechi Mitsuhide and Oda Nobunaga became enemies. In the same year, with the matchmaking of the lord Oda Nobunaga, the sixteen-year-old Akechi Tamako married the young general Hosokawa Tadayoshi and became a tool for Oda Nobunaga to win over his subordinates.
On June 1, 1582, Akechi Mitsuhide led his troops to attack Honnoji Temple, and Oda Nobunaga died in the fire. Afterwards, Akechi Mitsuhide took over Azuchi Castle, but was defeated by Hashiba Hideyoshi (Toyoda Hideyoshi) and others who avenged their master. Akechi Mitsuhide was defeated in the Battle of Yamazaki and was attacked and killed on the way to escape.
Akechi Tamako at that time changed her husband’s surname to Hosokawa Tamako because she became the wife of Hosokawa Tadaki. Tamako is naturally beautiful, young and beautiful, and is a famous beauty in Japanese history. The husband and wife have a very good relationship. But because of her rebellious father Akechi Mitsuhide, Tamako, the daughter of a rebel, was in a difficult situation. At this time, her husband, Hosokawa Tadaki, had defected to Hashiba Hideyoshi. In order to show his loyalty to the new lord and avenge his old lord, many retainers suggested that Hosokawa Tadaki kill his wife, Tamako. But Hosokawa Tadayaki couldn't bear to do it, so he imprisoned her in the mountains. It was not until Hashiba Hideyoshi stopped pursuing him that he released Tamako and restored the relationship between husband and wife.
In the depressing life of confinement. Yuzi came into contact with Christianity, was baptized, received the Christian name Galaxia, and became a devout believer. In 1587, Toyotomi Hideyoshi issued a ban on Christianity, but Tamako, who believed in Christianity, refused to give up her faith, and the relationship between the couple was tense.
After the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Hosokawa Tadayoshi had frequent contact with Tokugawa Ieyasu and sent his son to Edo as a hostage. Hosokawa Tadaki belonged to the "dogmatic faction" in Toyotomi Hideyoshi's camp. They were at odds with the leader of the Bunji faction, Ishida Mitsunari, and they once sent people to launch an attack on Ishida Mitsunari. Tokugawa Ieyasu secretly contacted seven "arbitrary" generals, including Hosokawa Tadayoshi, and roped them in to fight against Ishida Mitsunari, and the two sides prepared to fight.
At this time, Ishida Mitsunari issued an order in Osaka to detain the family members of these daimyo as hostages. Hosokawa Tadayoshi's wife Tamako did not escape Osaka Castle in time. In order to avoid becoming a hostage and embarrassing her husband, Hosokawa Tamako decided to commit suicide. But because she was a Christian and could not commit suicide according to the teachings, she ordered her retainer Ogasawara Shosai to stab him to death. After that, all the retainers, including Ogasawara Shosai, followed their mistress and performed Caesarean section to show their loyalty.
Hosokawa Tadayoshi, who received the bad news, fought tooth and nail against Ishida Mitsunari's ally Shima Sakon in the Sekigahara Battle. Because of his military exploits, he was granted the title of Ogura Domain by Tokugawa Ieyasu.
And Tamako Hosokawa, one of the three most tragic beauties in ancient Japanese history, has become a model for Yamato Nadeshiko because of her chastity and loyalty, and has been highly praised and sought after by future generations.
