How to propagate saddle-leaf sheep's hoof beetles

Propagation is mainly done by cuttings and layering. In addition, propagation can be done by sowing and dividing.

(1) Propagation by cuttings

In the greenhouse from October to November in the north, cuttings can be taken at any time from April to the beginning of autumn in the south, but the survival rate is highest between summer and autumn. For cuttings, choose healthy 2-year-old branches with a length of 10 to 12 centimeters. Cut off the lower leaves, dip them in vitamin B12 injection, and then insert them into the sand at a temperature of 80% relative humidity and a temperature of 20 to 24°C. It takes about 15 days to take root. If soaked in 20×10?~50×10? indolebutyric acid for 24 hours, the effect will be better. When the seedlings take root and begin to grow, transplant them or place individual plants in pots. They will bloom after 2 years.

(2) Layering propagation

In April, select strong branches from the 3-year-old mother plant, 25 to 30 cm long, for layering. If there are three-branched branches, they can be placed at the fork. , three seedlings can be obtained at one time. Generally, it takes 20 to 30 days to take root. It can be separated from the mother plant in June and can be planted separately or potted as a single plant in the following spring.

(3) Sowing and propagation

Mostly done in spring. Seeds germinate slowly. They germinate about 1 year after sowing and bloom after 3 to 4 years. It is not easy for potted plants in the north to receive seeds. Propagation by cuttings and layering is commonly used. For cuttings, use young shoots 1500 meters long during the rainy season, insert them into the seedbed, and take root in 10 to 12 days. For layering, select two-year-old branches in April, 20 to 25 cm long, bury them in the soil and keep them moist. They will take root in about 30 days. They will be separated from the mother plant in summer and planted in the next spring equinox. Transplanting seedlings or potted plants is best done in spring, during the rainy season, and requires soil balls. Keep the soil moist during the growing period, and water more during the flowering period and midsummer. Fertilize once a month, and add phosphorus and potassium fertilizer once before flowering. Prune and shape in early spring of the following year, and cut off dead branches and leggy branches in time.
