For us, the first step of dental practice is prosthodontics, from practicing on the headform in the practice room to operating in the patient's mouth, from a medical student to a dentist sitting in front of the patient. At first, everyone was a little excited and nervous. Fortunately, we have a good teacher, Mr. Zhang Ping, who is serious, responsible, strict and approachable. She has always been by our side, constantly encouraging us and helping us, and giving detailed guidance from receiving patients to surgery.
I still remember the nervousness when I first received a patient, the relief when I first heard the patient thank me, and the frustration when I made a mistake. These are all valuable experiences and wealth in my life. In the first week of entering the prosthodontics department, the teachers instilled in us the service concept of "serving patients and treating patients as relatives", and also taught us that as doctors, we should also have the awareness and skills of self-protection. Generally speaking, most patients still hold a respect or awe attitude towards doctors. Doctors rescued patients from pain, improved their quality of life, met their survival needs, and patients were grateful to them. In the ten weeks that I received patients, most of the patients I received were very cooperative. I have served them seriously and have a warm and sincere attitude. When I saw the patient wearing my false teeth, I showed a satisfied smile; When the patient gives a pertinent evaluation of my service, joy arises spontaneously, accompanied by a heavy sense of responsibility. Due to the limitation of time and chairs, the number of patients we receive is limited, and the types of diseases we are exposed to are also biased. Some students always accept active jobs, while others always accept fixed jobs, so students are dubbed as "fixed groups" or "activity groups". Because of the characteristics of the restoration work itself, many patients need periodontal or dental treatment first, so many patients just check and leave, which is really a disadvantage for us who are only 9 weeks old. It would be great if we could increase the clinic time and chair seats in the future internship. In the rotation of the three groups, we spend half an hour every day in the mechanic's room making dentures for patients. Because of the limited internship time before, I basically learned the basic production procedures, but I still have to make more efforts to do it well. Whenever we encounter problems, Mr. Liang Zheng always takes pains to explain them to us, often working overtime, just to make our dentures better and make us progress faster. We are very grateful to him for persisting in his work despite his illness and fever. During the time in the machine repair room, everyone helped each other and made progress. In the first week and the second week, students basically didn't receive any jobs, so they had plenty of time. If we can use this time to arrange students to visit outpatient clinics and watch teaching, I believe there will be greater gains. From the first day of the restoration, we began to face challenges, and we gained new gains and found new problems every day. So we actively sum up and exchange experiences among students, so that we can share our experiences and encourage each other. In the concluding lecture, students and teachers discuss the existing problems; In case discussion class, students learn from each other by consulting materials, talking about opinions and teaching complex diseases. If we can increase the number of small lectures, it doesn't take a long time at a time, just 10 to 15 minutes. If we sum up the problems that appear every day in time, students will make faster progress.
In my five-week internship, the deepest feeling is that there is still a big gap between clinical operation and knowledge in books. It takes a long learning process to integrate book knowledge into clinical operation and use it flexibly. Teachers are our guides, and their operating experience is our precious wealth. Being good at learning from teachers in clinic is the only way for us to grow up quickly.
Five weeks of dental practice is just the beginning of our practice. We are still immature and need the guidance and guidance of teachers, but we have a firm heart. No matter what difficulties we encounter, we will follow in the footsteps of our predecessors step by step.
