1, young tree stage
Pomegranate tree is in the young tree stage after growing 1-3 years. At this time, pruning should be carried out when the plant height reaches 1 m to inhibit the growth of the top, and then three main branches growing in different directions should be retained, and the remaining branches should be cut off to form a general plant shape. In the second year, 7 lateral branches were kept on the main branch, and the remaining lateral branches were cut off to promote the fullness of plant type.
2. Full fruiting period
Pruning pomegranate trees at full fruit stage is mainly based on thinning, and branches with poor growth, weak growth and dense growth are cut off to reduce nutrient consumption. Moreover, the drooping branches under the main branches and side branches should be cut off to keep the plants beautiful. If the distance between the main branches is less than 80 cm, sticks should be laid on the main branches to increase the light receiving area.
3. Curing period
Pomegranate trees enter the aging period, the fruit yield decreases and the growth rate slows down. At this time, the aging primary lateral branches should be retracted and pruned until upward branches appear, and the long branches should be shortened to promote the sprouting of pomegranate trees, and the new sprouting branches should replace the main branches to re-form the crown.
Matters needing attention in pomegranate tree cultivation
1, plenty of light
When cultivating potted pomegranate, it is necessary to provide sufficient light to avoid bad growth phenomena such as yellow leaves due to insufficient light. Simply putting potted plants in the sun for full sunshine maintenance will make them grow and bloom better.
2. Water and fertilizer management
When cultivating potted pomegranate, don't water too much. Generally, water is poured once every 3-5 days to make the soil moist and not dry. Don't spray water on the flowers during flowering to avoid falling flowers. When applying fertilizer, pay attention to applying dilute fertilizer solution every 10- 15 days to meet its fertilizer-loving demand and make it flourish.
3, plastic pruning
In the cultivation method of potted pomegranate, it is necessary to do a good job of shaping and pruning, shorten or cut off the vigorous branches in time, and then cut off the weak branches and diseased branches that consume nutrients, so as to maintain the good plant shape and healthy growth state of potted pomegranate.
4. Overwintering and cold protection
When the temperature is below 5℃ in winter, potted pomegranate will go into hibernation. To do a good job of overwintering, plastic film is generally used to cover flowerpots in the south to keep warm, and potted pomegranates in the north should be moved back indoors for maintenance to make them overwinter.
