Views on the future of healthcare

I recently saw a topic on Zhihu, asking whether the doctor-patient relationship will be better in the future due to this epidemic.

After reading many answers, I just want to say: No, it will even be more serious. Seventeen years after the SARS epidemic in 2003, the relationship between doctors and patients is still getting more and more serious.

Many people now call doctors and nurses “angels in white” and cheer for them, but in the future it may still be the same group of people who beat and chop doctors.

In their eyes, doctors are selfless and should not expect anything in return. What? Doctors also want high income? What? Doctors also want to rest?

This is not the main thing Yes, for example

A patient went to see a doctor with symptoms of cough and fever. The doctor thought he had a cold, so he prescribed some medicine. However, when he returned, he found that it was more serious. After examination, it turned out that he had a cold. Lung problems are quite serious and may be life-threatening. So he went to the doctor at that time and said that he was a quack. He was so angry that he wanted to chop him with a knife. Therefore, the doctor may be beaten up at worst, or die at worst.

Later, because of the previous lessons, the doctor did not dare to be careless when he encountered a patient with similar symptoms again, so he asked him to do blood tests, take X-rays, and do various examinations. He was careful in everything, for fear that something might happen. What disease has not been detected? But the final test result was a common cold. Ah ha, the patient was very angry and thought to himself, this doctor knows how to make money, and he prescribed so many tests for me just for a common cold.

Therefore, no matter what the situation is, this doctor will be scolded.

Most patients are reasonable, but maybe only the 5% are looking for trouble. The actions of a few must be borne by all. Because of that 5%, doctors have to prescribe various examinations for everyone because they are afraid that the situation I mentioned above will occur. And don’t everyone have to bear the cost of the extra examinations?

This is only part of it. The bigger problem is the scarcity of medical resources. It is difficult and expensive for patients to see a doctor. Pediatricians are the first to see problems.

Pediatrics is also called "mute department" because children themselves cannot describe their symptoms, and children are still in the developmental stage, and their various physical conditions are different from adults and are still in a state of change. This makes pediatric diseases more difficult and difficult to do well without considerable experience and technology.

Pediatrics is also the department with the most serious doctor-patient relationship. Nowadays, children are the treasures of the family. If the child does not do well at all, parents will fight against the doctor. In addition, the income of pediatricians is very low and the work is very tiring. There has been a "paediatrician panic".

In 2017, the shortage of pediatricians in my country has exceeded 200,000, and the total number of doctors is 100,000. This is still 17 years of data, and the gap is still growing.

The number of children aged 0-14 in my country is about 260 million, and 100,000 pediatricians have to serve 260 million children.

On average, a doctor has to serve 2,600 children.

It makes it easier to be there for everyone to see, so I included this picture.

In fact, studying medicine is not easy. At least you start with a master's degree. It takes 5 years of bachelor's degree + 3 years of master's degree + 3 years of doctorate + 3 years of formal training. . . .

There is a possibility in the future that the current medical environment will force medical marketization. Just like abroad, a cold can cost thousands of dollars.

There are more and more private hospitals, and it is easier and more convenient to see a doctor, but they are very expensive.

Nowadays, there are more and more private eye hospitals, dental hospitals, and pediatric hospitals, but they all have the same characteristics

In the future, it will be better for rich people to provide services. , high-quality hospitals, but the poor can only go to crowded places, where queuing takes a long time, registration is difficult, painful and despairing.

What you do now will have to pay for it later

There is still a long way to go. . . .
