Difference between Pinus tabulaeformis and Pinus thunbergii
Black pine: Woody evergreen tree of Pinus of Pinaceae, with a plant height of 30-40 meters, dark gray bark and thick needles, with two needles in a bundle. Like temperate maritime climate, tolerant to barren and saline-alkali soil. Japanese and South Korean, widely cultivated along the eastern coast of China. Tree species for afforestation in barren hills have greening effect and ornamental value. Landscape beautification, beautiful tree shape and large bonsai effect.

Pinus tabulaeformis: Pinaceae, Pinus, woody, evergreen tree, with plant height of 25-30m, grayish brown bark and irregular thick scales. The needles are thick and hard, flat and strip-shaped, with two needles in a bundle. The most light-loving tree species grow well under all-day illumination. The producing areas are vast, from Yinshan Mountain to Helan Mountain, from Qilian Mountain to Qinling Mountain, Taihang Mountain, Yanshan Mountain and Qinshan Mountain. The distribution is centered on Shaanxi and Shanxi. Green tree species can be used for building materials, cutting turpentine, turpentine, rosin, etc. Tannin can be extracted from skin. The main greening effect of garden gymnosperms is obvious.

Several good methods to distinguish two kinds of trees

1, look at pine needles

The pine needles of Pinus tabulaeformis are thicker than those of Pinus tabulaeformis, so it is a good method to distinguish them when they are seedlings. Black pine needles are thick, hard and long, while China pine needles are slightly thin, soft and slightly drooping. When they are adult trees, there is little difference between pine needles. Black pine needles are still thicker than pine needles of Pinus tabulaeformis, and the length is similar.

2. Look at these pine shoots

Black pine and Chinese pine will grow every year, and new buds will grow at the top of branches every year. They will have pine buds at the top after they start to grow every year. The pine buds of black pine are white, and those of Chinese pine are slightly red, that is, brownish red. So black pine is also called "white bud pine".

Step 3 look at the bark

There is little difference between bark of Pinus tabulaeformis and bark of Pinus thunbergii in seedling state. So it is best to distinguish the bark of black pine from that of Chinese pine. The bark of black pine is black. The bark of Pinus elliottii is slightly heavy and reddish. The bark of black pine is dark gray, so it is called black pine, and the bark of Chinese pine is grayish brown.

Step 4 look at the form

The morphology of Pinus tabulaeformis and Pinus thunbergii is slightly different in adulthood. Because the growth rate of black pine is faster than that of Chinese pine, the branch spacing of black pine is larger than that of Chinese pine. Generally, Pinus tabulaeformis and Pinus tabulaeformis with the same height have more layers of pine branches than Pinus thunbergii. The trunk of black pine tends to bend in adulthood, while Chinese pine is relatively tall and straight.
