When will peach trees be pruned?
Pruning period of peach trees can be divided into winter pruning (dormant pruning) and summer pruning (growth pruning). Winter pruning can be done after defoliation in autumn and before germination in the following spring, especially in late autumn.

How to prune peach trees

First, twist the tip

Twist the semi-lignified part of the upright new branch by hand, so that the xylem and phloem are sprained at the same time without breaking. Twisted new shoots droop or are flat, generally about 30 cm long, and twisted tender shoots at a distance of 15 cm from the base. Twisted branches can transform overgrown branches into fruiting branches, improve lighting conditions, relieve tree potential and prevent overgrowth.

Second, choose the heart.

It is to remove the tender branch at the top of the growing branch, and the core removal can change the nutrient distribution. Temporarily stopping the growth of denuded branches is not only beneficial to enrich branches and improve the plumpness of flower buds, but also can reduce the nutritional competition with adjacent branches, and denucleate when the tip is 20 cm long. After enucleation, twist the new tip when it grows to 30 cm.

Matters needing attention

Be sure to cut the tree short, which will promote it to grow outward, not upward. In order to bear big and sweet fruits, 90% of the existing fruits on the trees should be removed. A healthy tree usually bears too many fruits, and it is impossible for it to raise them all by itself, so in order to get the best yield, most of the fruits should be removed.
