Most of the enlargement or asymmetry of the labia minora is due to natural causes. There are also a few cases of extensive enlargement of the labia minora due to chronic inflammation, long-term pull-out of the labia minora, and the administration of external male hormones. Slight hypertrophy or excessive length will not cause any impact. If the enlargement of the labia causes some trouble, surgical treatment is required.
The main effects of enlarged labia minora are: inconvenience in cleaning after going to the toilet; bladder incompetence requiring self-catheterization; local friction caused by sitting, standing or walking; and even causing disharmony in sexual life or infection.
