Why is there no sense of smell and taste after sinusitis surgery?
There is indeed a sense of smell loss after allergic rhinitis surgery. Olfactory receptors are located in the receptor cells of olfactory system, which are located at the upper end of nasal epithelium. Through them, we can detect the inhaled odor molecules. Each olfactory receptor cell contains only one olfactory receptor, and each receptor can only distinguish a limited number of odors. These olfactory receptor cells can transmit tiny neural responses to different olfactory micro-regions, olfactory bulbs, olfactory vesicles and olfactory parts of the brain. So the operation may hurt the recipient, but the recipient can recover slowly through self-exercise.
