What are the causes and hazards of turn-to-turn short circuit in rotor windings?
First, the reason

1, poor manufacturing process. For example, the turn-to-turn insulation is damaged during off-line shaping; Copper wires with bumps and burrs can also cause turn-to-turn insulation damage.

2. In operation, under the comprehensive stress of electricity, heat and machinery, the winding is deformed and displaced, which leads to the fracture, wear and fall-off of turn-to-turn insulation; In addition, due to dirt, it may also lead to turn-to-turn short circuit (especially between rotor winding ends).

3、? Long-term operation and insulation aging will also cause turn-to-turn short circuit.

Second, the harm

Rotor winding turn-to-turn short circuit fault is a common defect of generator. With slight turn-to-turn short circuit, the unit can only continue to run, but attention should be paid to strengthening monitoring and testing;

When the turn-to-turn short circuit is serious, the rotor current will increase significantly and the rotor winding temperature will rise, thus limiting the output of reactive power of the generator, or aggravating the vibration of the unit, or even forcing the shutdown. Therefore, when the rotor winding has turn-to-turn short circuit fault, it is necessary to find out and eliminate the turn-to-turn short circuit point through experiments to restore the normal operation of the generator.

rotator

Rotor is a technical term. Refers to a rotating body supported by a bearing. An object without a rotating shaft, such as an optical disc, can be regarded as a rotor when a rigid connection or an additional shaft is used.
