Briefly describe the main differences between hubs and switches.
The main differences are different in nature, principle and function, as follows:

First, the nature is different.

1, hub

Hub refers to the equipment that connects multiple Ethernet twisted pair or optical fiber groups under the same physical medium.

Step 2: Transform

Switch, meaning "switch", is a kind of network equipment used for electric (optical) signal forwarding.

Second, the principle is different.

1, hub

The working process of the hub is that the node sends signals to the line and the hub receives signals. Because the signal is attenuated in cable transmission, the hub shapes and amplifies the attenuated signal after receiving it, and finally the hub broadcasts and forwards the amplified signal to all other ports.

Step 2: Transform

Switches work at the second layer of the OSI reference model, namely the data link layer. When each port is connected successfully, the CPU inside the switch will match the MAC address with the port to form a MAC table. In future communication, packets sent to this MAC address will only be sent to its corresponding port, not all ports. So the switch can be used to divide the data link layer broadcast, that is, the collision domain, but not the network layer broadcast, that is, the broadcast domain.

Third, the function is different.

1, hub

The main function of the hub is to regenerate, shape and amplify the received signal, so as to expand the transmission distance of the network, and at the same time concentrate all nodes on the node centered on it.

Step 2: Transform

It can provide a dedicated electrical signal path for any two network nodes accessing the switch. The most common switch is an Ethernet switch. Other common ones are telephone voice switch and optical fiber switch.
