Optical fiber and coaxial are two completely different communication methods, and their differences are mainly manifested in the following aspects:
1, the transmission medium is different: the optical fiber is glass fiber as the medium; Coaxial is copper core and conductor.
2. Different transmission signals: optical fiber outputs optical signals; Coaxial output electric signal.
3, the transmission bandwidth is different: the optical fiber bandwidth is very high, which can reach tens or hundreds of G; And coaxial generally does not exceed1g; ;
4. Different transmission distances: optical fiber is suitable for long-distance transmission, and long-distance backbone networks are basically optical cable transmission. According to the receiving and transmitting equipment, direct transmission can generally reach tens or even hundreds of kilometers, and the distance can be extended through relay amplifiers, such as transnational submarine cables between China and the United States; Coaxial transmission distance is short, generally only a few hundred meters.
