What are the methods of shaping and pruning seedlings?
Plastic trimming is usually understood as a noun. In fact, there are both close ties and different meanings in production. The so-called shaping is generally that young trees form a certain tree structure and shape through shaping to meet the ornamental requirements of landscaping for tree species. Pruning is generally a measure taken for the branches of big trees (or seedlings). Pruning is the removal of a part of a plant above ground (pruning) or underground (pruning). Plastic surgery is done by pruning, and pruning is done on the basis of plastic surgery. Trimming is an essential and important measure for raising seedlings of fruit trees, various flowers and ornamental trees.

First, the significance of plastic pruning

1. The ideal trunk and plump lateral branches are cultivated by shaping and pruning, so that the tree body is complete, symmetrical, compact and firm, laying the foundation for cultivating beautiful trees.

2. Plastic pruning can improve the ventilation and light transmission conditions of seedlings, reduce pests and diseases, and improve the quality of seedlings.

3. Pruning is one of the measures to artificially dwarf plants. Some ornamental plants are dwarfed by repeated pruning and other comprehensive measures to meet people's ornamental requirements.

Second, the period and method of plastic pruning

(1) Pruning period:

Pruning period can generally be divided into two periods: dormancy (winter) pruning and growth (summer or spring) pruning. Winter pruning is from the dormancy of trees frozen in soil to the beginning of liquid flow in the following spring, generally from 65438+February to the following February. Trees with poor cold resistance are best pruned in early spring to avoid cold injury to wounds. Tree species with particularly serious bleeding, such as grapes, Acer negundo, walnuts, paulownia, and Sizhaohua, should not be pruned too late. Otherwise, there will be a lot of blood loss and serious damage to trees. Summer pruning is carried out from germination to the time before the new shoots stop growing (usually from April to June, 10), and the specific date varies according to local climatic conditions and tree species characteristics.

(2) Pruning method:

There are many ways to prune trees. In garden nurseries, measures such as bud peeling, core removal, short cutting and branch thinning are often used to achieve seedling raising effect.

1. Bud wiping:

When trees germinate, many buds often germinate at the same time, so that the water and nutrients absorbed by the roots can not be supplied to the remaining buds, which requires erasing some buds to promote the development of branches and form an ideal tree shape.

2. Choose your heart:

In the process of tree growth, the shape of trees is influenced by the unbalanced growth of branches. The strong branches can be cored to control the growth, so as to adjust the growth of the main branches of the crown and meet the requirements of symmetrical and plump crown. For tree species with poor cold resistance, coring can also be used to prevent their growth, so that their branches can be enriched and safely overwinter.

3. Shortcut:

Cutting off part of the branch is a shortcut. Shortcuts can be divided into light shortcuts and heavy shortcuts. Short cuttings can stimulate the growth of branches and germinate buds under cuttings. If the buds under the cutting mouth are small and thin, they can develop into fruiting branches after cutting. If the buds under the cutting mouth are full, the branches after cutting will develop vigorously and grow healthily. In seedling raising, heavy cutting and short cutting are often used to cultivate the main branches.

4. Thinning:

Cutting too many and too dense branches from the base is called thinning. Thinning branches can reduce nutrient consumption and is beneficial to ventilation and light transmission. For arbor species, it can promote trunk growth, and for flowering shrub species, it can promote early flowering.

5. Shrinkage and shearing:

Retract the weak main branch or side branch to a certain position, reduce or raise its angle, restore its vitality, enhance ventilation and light transmission, and its reaction is the same as that of short section.

6. Injured branches:

Any method of breaking branches in various ways to weaken or alleviate the growth of branches belongs to injured branches. Such as cutting, girdling, twisting branches, twisting tips, etc. These measures are beneficial to the accumulation of nutrients in local branches and promote the differentiation of buds, which are mostly used in fruit trees.
