WHO believes that the reason for the spread of MERS in Korea lies in the lack of understanding of MERS by medical staff and ordinary citizens, and the measures for preventing virus infection in hospitals are not in place. In addition, the emergency room and inpatient department of the hospital are overcrowded, which greatly increases the chances of close contact with MERS patients. Patients' visits to several hospitals are the reasons for the spread of the virus.
WHO pointed out that the MERS virus found in South Korea is no different from the virus in the Middle East, and it is particularly important to monitor whether the virus mutates. At present, there is no evidence that MERS virus has spread to Korean communities. The MERS epidemic in South Korea proves that in today's society with frequent personnel movements, all countries should be prepared for the occurrence of infectious diseases.
WHO also stated that it is not recommended to ban travel to South Korea or take trade ban measures, and that it is not necessary to implement immigration inspection measures at present.
