Proper management of burns and scalds: 5 steps to avoid leaving scars.
With the coming of winter, more and more people choose to eat hot pot and use hot water bottles and electric blankets to keep warm. But it has also led to an increase in scalded patients, especially children and the elderly. Chai Jiake, director of the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of PLA General Hospital, reminded everyone that it is very important to correctly handle burns and scalds to avoid leaving scars or reduce them. There are five steps to deal with burns and scalds: washing, taking off, soaking, wrapping and sending.

Rinse the injured surface.

Immediately after burns and scalds, wash the injured surface with flowing cold water to reduce the temperature and tissue damage.

Take off while rushing.

If you are scalded by boiling water, there is still high temperature on your clothes, and not taking off your clothes will aggravate the injury. Therefore, rushing to take off is the right way.

Continue to soak the wound

After taking off clothes, continue to soak the wound with cold water to keep the temperature down and avoid foaming or aggravation. If there are blisters, don't break them. They should be treated by doctors.

Wrap the wound with a towel.

Before being sent to the hospital, be sure to wrap the injured face with a clean towel to avoid exposure to the air. Never apply ointment.

Send a doctor in time

After the above treatment, you should seek medical treatment in time and seek the assistance of professional doctors.
