Infant ptosis can be divided into congenital and acquired according to the etiology. Congenital ptosis is caused by levator palpebrae superioris deformity or oculomotor nerve nucleus hypoplasia. It exists after birth, mostly bilateral, and often has genetic factors. If ptosis is caused by levator palpebrae superioris deformity, it usually manifests as simple ptosis. If it is caused by neuronuclear hypoplasia, it is often complicated with other eye abnormalities, such as epicanthus, ptosis and strabismus.

Among them, congenital simple ptosis is the most common cause of ptosis for children ophthalmologists. It is a disease that one eye fissure is smaller than the other because of congenital dysplasia of levator palpebrae superioris. Looking at the child's upper eyelid, we can see that the eyelid is thinner than the side, and the eyelid cannot be effectively raised when the child opens his eyes, but when the child looks down, it appears that the eyelid on this side cannot follow the eyeball downward. 75% of the children have unilateral onset, and some of them are complicated with enophthalmos.

Under normal circumstances, the phenomenon of infant eyelid drooping should be solved as soon as possible, no matter what. Because drooping eyelids will make your baby's eyes look dull, or your eyes can't be opened, which will seriously affect your vision and cause amblyopia.
