First, link to open the excel data source. Select Link to Data, and then select excel to open the directory where the excel file is located.
After opening excel in tableau, you need to click "Go to Worksheet".
Display excel data completely in tableau. You can see two types of data in tableau: dimensions and measures, in which dimensions are uncountable data and measures are countable data. Cities in the original data are of course dimensional data, while population is measurement data.
Because we want to use tableau's map function, we must first turn the city dimension data into geographical roles. Right click "City"-select "Geographical Role"-select "City". After confirmation, you will see a sign of a small earth next to the "city", indicating that the geographical role has been set successfully.
Hold down the ctrl key, and select the two fields "City" and "Population" at the same time. You can see that some recommended map labels in the smart display are bright, which means that you can choose a state and choose a map at will.
After a short wait, the selected data has been displayed at the designated location on the map of China.
You can choose graphics, labels, colors, etc. to beautify the generated map.
