How to plant feather maple?
1. Tree species introduction

Castanea henryi, also known as Castanea henryi and Castanea henryi, is a horticultural variety of Acer in Aceraceae. The plant height is generally no more than 4 meters, and the crown is developed; Branches droop slightly, new branches are purplish red, and mature branches are dark red; The tender leaves are bright red, covered with white fur, and gradually fall off after stretching, and the color of the leaves changes from gorgeous to lavender or even dark green; The leaves are palmately divided to the base, and the lobes are narrow, pinnate and wrinkled, and gradually turn red in autumn. Other features are the same as Castanea henryi. Like warm and humid environment and cool climate, like light but afraid of scorching sun, it belongs to neutral shade tree species. Cold-resistant, in the Yellow River basin, the winter temperature is as low as -20℃, as long as the environment is good, it can still overwinter in the open air; It can grow in weak acid, neutral and calcareous soil. Distributed in Henan to Yangtze River valley.

2. Breeding method

Multi-grafting propagation. Acer truncatum seedlings of 3 ~ 4 years old are often used as rootstocks, and they are cut, grafted and germinated when the rootstocks grow most vigorously. When the rootstock buds swell in March and April in spring, they should be cut 50~80cm from the ground for high grafting, so that the new shoots of that year can be picked more than 50 ~ 80 cm. Bud grafting in May-June, the interface is easy to heal. Autumn bud grafting can improve the survival rate by raising the grafting site properly and leaving more stems and leaves.

Step 3: plastic trimming

Mainly natural spherical or umbrella-shaped. When the seedlings grow to the height of 1.2 ~ 1.5 m, fix the stem at 1.0 ~ 1.2 m, and remove all the redundant buds at the lower part. Before the spring buds germinate in the following year, the annual branches are reserved for short cutting, combined with local thinning, upright branches, cross branches, pest branches and so on. It's all cut off. When the new branches are semi-lignified during the growth period, leave 30cm for topping and cut off the buds on the rootstock. In the future, if each branch is separated from other branches, there will be overlapping levels, but they will not touch each other.

4. Conventional cultivation management

Transplanting should be done after defoliation and before germination, with overnight soil. After planting, it is advisable to apply quick-acting fertilizer 2 ~ 3 times in spring and summer, keep the soil moist in summer and dry it in autumn. Other cultivation management is the same as Castanea henryi.
