Taxus seedlings. Canna is more suitable for planting bonsai. Different Taxus species have different adaptability to the environment, and there are different Taxus species in the north and south of China. Some yew can adapt to the indoor shady environment (such as Taxus mairei), and most yew can adapt to the semi-shady environment with cold and heat resistance, and can grow well with proper scattered light every day.
The picture above shows the fenced yew.
Taxus can even form a fence, and after proper pruning, it can also become a green fence. They are easier to take care of, but they should be trimmed regularly to keep good shape.
In nature, Taxus chinensis can grow to 15~20 meters high, and its plant height can be controlled at more than one meter after potted. If properly maintained, yew can still produce bright red berries from March to May. Taxus is a very beautiful conifer. Its price is not too expensive, but it can adapt to various environments and grow in the shade.
1, give the morning light
Proper shade should be maintained in the place where yew is planted, and it is best to give more morning light every day. If the environment is too dark, its growth rate will slow down, and if it is sunny, it will easily lead to dry branches and leaves.
If it is a small yew, avoid direct sunlight and pay attention to the wind. Don't put it in a windy place.
2. Cultivated soil quality
Taxus can adapt to all kinds of soil, so it is best to plant it in some soil rich in humus and abundant in fertility. It is best to choose sandy soil or humus soil with good drainage, and the soil cultivation is best to be slightly acidic. Of course, too much river sand should not be added to the soil, and the river sand should not exceed 30% of the soil. In addition, compost soil should be added appropriately, and it is not suitable to plant Taxus chinensis in soil with too strong acidity.
Step 3 water it reasonably
Taxus are not very expensive, and their growth rate is not too fast. Usually, the height of the potted Taxus plants we buy is about 30 cm, and the plants will be short and the branches and leaves will not be too thick, which requires our patient care to thrive.
For potted Taxus chinensis, appropriate space should be reserved at the top of the flowerpot, but it will be easier to take care of it in order to avoid water overflow when watering.
Young yew plants need a lot of water, so don't let the soil be too dry. Don't think that Taxus chinensis is a woody plant, so the soil can be often dried. This is completely wrong. As long as the soil is not wet and stagnant for a long time, the problem is not big. If the soil is often dry, it will easily lead to dry branches and leaves.
4. Pay attention to fertilization and pruning
The maintenance of Taxus chinensis should pay attention to occasional fertilization, especially in the peak season when the plants are small, or it is necessary to supplement some compost or apply some special fertilizer to conifers. Water more after fertilization, which will help the fertility to be absorbed by the roots faster. The best time for fertilization is spring, and it can be supplemented every 6~8 weeks in spring, summer and autumn.

In order to keep the good-looking appearance of yew, it is usually pruned once a year. When pruning, be careful not to cut too hard, because yew itself grows slowly. Also pay attention to the timing of pruning, preferably when yew is ready to sprout in spring, so that yew can thrive in summer.
Don't trim after June. Another thing to note is that if the weather is too cold in winter and the tops of branches become bare, a thorough pruning should be carried out after first frost, all branches should be cut off, and some trunks should be kept so that they can grow new branches again.
