The origin of National Eye Love Day

On September 25th, 1992, Geng, a professor of ophthalmology and epidemiology at Tianjin Medical University, first proposed to set up an eye-loving day in China, and held the first national seminar on eye-loving day in Tianjin. This initiative was responded by ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists, and it was decided that May 5th of each year would be "National Eye Care Day". On May 5th, 1993, Tianjin held the first eye-care day publicity activity. Affected by this, since 1994, large and medium-sized cities in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, have held free consultation activities on May 5 to publicize the significance of Eye-Love Day. 1996, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the China Disabled Persons' Federation and other ministries and commissions jointly issued a notice, listing Eye-Love Day as one of the national festivals and redetermining June 6 as the National Eye-Love Day.

June 6th, 2003 is the eighth National Eye Love Day, with the theme of "Take care of glasses and strive to eliminate avoidable blindness".

June 6th, 2004 is the 9th National Eye Care Day, with the theme of "Preventing ametropia and low vision and improving the level of eye care for children and adolescents".
