Why don't I go to Apple?

At a recent gathering of old colleagues, I met a colleague who currently works at Apple. We have a good relationship with him. He even successfully interviewed for Apple the year before last, and I coached him in several rounds of interviews. Thinking about it today, I thought I should share the situation of Apple in China. Maybe you or your classmates, relatives and friends need it.

In fact, including this former colleague, I have three friends who work at Apple. If you think about it, my main job is procurement and supply chain management. It is not surprising that these three positions are as follows.

Supplier Base EngineerGlobal Supply Chain ManagerNPI Manager

Don’t think about it with traditional thinking. In fact, the salary of this Engineer is not much lower than that of the other two Managers. The annual salary income of these three All are between 600,000 and 900,000.

The three of them don’t actually know each other, there are so many colleagues, but they all know Henry. This Henry is the job seeker in the conversation below. He is actually me. My English name is Herny. At the beginning of last year, I was doing well in an American company. When the company was about to promote me to director, I suddenly received an interview invitation from Apple’s HR. It is estimated that one of these three Apple colleagues played a "prank". He asked their HR to poach me, and obviously he made a recommendation for me within Apple.

This is the letter I received from Apple. The sender is Michael, the recruitment director of their human resources department. I only visit LinkedIn (linkedin.com) occasionally, and I haven’t submitted any resume. Since Apple HR was so proactive, I got in touch with them.

Later I discovered that the job recommended to me was quite different. I now manage 200 suppliers, and many new projects require the development of new suppliers. Although Apple gave me the same job title, But I was only allowed to manage two suppliers, both of which were large companies in the industry with a workforce of 100,000 people. There was no need to develop new suppliers at all. After passing the initial interview, I was hesitant to consider this job opportunity.

There is something important at this time. You know, salary must be discussed first. Apple HR told me about the various salaries and stock incentive plans, and said that in addition to the salary, there was a stock of US$100,000. In fact, it's quite tempting to think about it now. The stock price is said to have nearly doubled again. If I bought it at that time, it would already be 200,000 US dollars. If I cash it out in RMB, it will cost close to 1.5 million. I don't know how to deduct tax.

Of course, these are a bit foggy and you won’t know it completely unless you go in. I also consulted people inside Apple about the salary situation. Finally, I stopped beating around the bush with HR and said: "If nothing else, my current salary is quite high, with an annual salary of 500,000. How much can you offer? One million?!" There was hesitation and a lot of talk. . As you all know, I am an expert in face-to-face matters and have so many years of experience. I still don’t understand these things? I asked directly: "How much? No nonsense." They finally told me the truth, that is, Apple has an unspoken rule for poaching people, and the salary can be double the salary of the previous employer. For me, even with an annual salary of roughly one million, it is quite tempting.

Of course, I didn’t go in the end. The main reason is that my side business has been laid out for many years, and it has grown a lot, and it takes time. My job at Apple involves a lot of business travel, and as I’m approaching 40, I’m not used to traveling anymore. In addition, this job only manages 2 suppliers, which is not very helpful for me to increase my resources and network before retiring at the age of 45 in only 20 years of work.

I won’t talk about my experience for now. For colleagues who don’t have a side job, or fresh graduates, it’s not bad to join such a big Apple company with a good reputation and a high salary. Apple also has on-campus recruitment for fresh graduates. I think there are more than a dozen positions on campus this year, mainly focusing on design and R&D positions, such as this position, Instrumentation System Design Engineer. Of course, other departments are also recruiting.

If a fresh graduate can join Apple, the salary will be roughly twice the average income of peers like your classmates. For example, for the demand for fresh graduates in 2018, you can search for job postings on the recruitment page of Apple's homepage (), or directly send your resume in Chinese and English to this email address:.

As for social recruitment, I have just given you the details. If people from other companies switch jobs, their income can basically be doubled. In terms of social recruitment, Apple not only recruits people through a few headhunting companies such as Hudson and Michael Page, but as mentioned in the above experience, they also welcome internal recommendations, and especially like LinkedIn and Liepin.com. Find people on social websites. Maybe they like to communicate one-on-one with job seekers immediately, instead of "watching from a distance" with job seekers through traditional 51job and Zhaopin Recruitment. The traditional ones are indeed lagging behind. Once you submit your resume, you can only wait anxiously, or buy some services to see "which companies have viewed me" and "at what stage of my resume", and HR cannot communicate with you online and has to find someone. Just use the number on your resume to call.

In terms of background check, Apple mainly uses Zhongzhi. In addition to requiring you to sign an authorization letter, all you have to do is provide a copy of your ID card and your background will be checked. After all, you don’t have to worry about it.

Generally speaking, in the current fierce competition for employment, it is good to enter Apple. I don’t want to go to Apple. I do have special circumstances, but you can go. You are under 40 years old.

That’s all for today. Regarding other issues at Apple, what positions are they hiring for? How many rounds of interviews were there and what was the process like? What are their employment standards? Are there even any onboarding tips? Wait, I will write it another day. You can also leave a message and we will answer it together next time.
