Is it good to use plastic orchid pots for orchids?
When I first started to raise orchids, orchids at home were really like grocery stores, and there were all kinds of orchids. At first I used a very traditional and popular blue pottery basin in Chaoshan. Later, I fell in love with the purple sand basin. With the increase in the number of orchids, messy pots bring inconvenience to management. In order to coordinate the drainage speed of multiple blue pots in the orchid room, it is necessary to use pots with similar size, thickness, thickness and shape, so that multiple blue pots in the same room can be watered at the same time, and after the same time, the drying state of each blue pot will be the same, or there will be no big difference. At present, it seems that plastic flowerpots are relatively easy to realize. Of course, some You Lan specially order or buy a whole batch of teapots or light porcelain pots for ventilation and beauty, but the cost is really high. Many people in You Lan have different opinions about plastic pots, and think that they are not ventilated. Actually, this is a misunderstanding.

Orchids are difficult to grow. The first thing to be solved is the ventilation and humidity control of the structure in the basin. What kind of orchids to use and what kind of planting materials to match are very important. As for what kind of flowerpot to use, we should focus on its economy and availability. If the selection of planting materials and the control of water content are not well mastered, then the best potted plants may not be effective.

There are many kinds of flowerpots for cultivating orchids, including pottery pots, porcelain pots, purple sand pots and plastic pots. Pottery pots are plain-fired earthen pots, which have good air permeability, can filter water, and are cheap. They are suitable for planting orchids in a large area, but they are rough and unattractive, and are not suitable for direct display and appreciation. In addition, from an economic point of view, clay pots are much more expensive than soft plastic culture cups. Shaqilan basin fired in Yingjing, Sichuan is water-absorbing and breathable, but it is not easy to achieve the effect of quick drying and quick wetting when combined with peat soil and other local plants that are often used.

Porcelain pots are glazed pots, and ordinary porcelain pots are usually used as a set of pots. Its appearance is beautiful, but its air permeability and drainage are poor, which is no different from plastic flowerpots. Of course, from consumption cost, it is also more expensive than plastic flowerpots. Recently, a lightweight porcelain flowerpot appeared on the market, which was calcined at low temperature. It has the characteristics of water absorption and air permeability, but it is more expensive.

Purple clay pots are between pottery pots and porcelain pots, each with its own advantages and disadvantages, but they are more expensive. People who keep orchids at home and have a small number may use them more, such as the Chu-Han Nilan pot produced in Yixing, Zhejiang.

Dali, Jianchuan and Lijiang in western Yunnan traditionally use black crocks (also called waist drum pots). This kind of basin has loose texture, thin wall and many drainage holes at the bottom, and the ratio of basin height to basin width is about 3: 2. The mouth and bottom of the basin are small, and the waist of the basin is thick. This increases the capacity of the area with concentrated root growth, which is very suitable for the growth and development of orchids with developed roots such as lotus root, snow element and snow element. Its disadvantage is that the mouth of the pot is small, and it is not easy to turn over the pot by dividing plants. Moreover, the pot is generally large, heavy after being filled with soil, and the moisture is difficult to control.

Plastic pots are commonly used containers for planting orchids in recent years. They are light, cheap and easy to use, and are widely used in southern China. Plastic pots don't absorb water, and their air permeability and heat dissipation are poor, but they can generally be made up by erecting high blue pots and padding drainage materials. Plastic pots are often equipped with breathable materials such as volcanic rocks and water moss as cultivation substrates to cultivate orchids. As long as the plant material structure in the pot is reasonable, the plastic flowerpot can also achieve the effect of ventilation. As far as the living environment of orchids in nature is concerned, the roots of orchids grow underground, and the ventilation effect is not necessarily better than that of plastic pots. The problem is that the growing soil is loose and the drainage is smooth, so it can flourish. Ten thousand yuan was introduced into an orchid seedling, which was also planted in a plastic pot and grew well.

There is no definite method for planting orchids. You can grow orchids well with any flowerpot. The author's company has two large pots of orchids by the window, with a diameter of 40 cm. At first, there were no holes in the bottom and sides of this porcelain transparent pot, but later only a small hole was opened in the bottom for drainage. These two pots of four-season orchids have been blooming every year for four years and are growing well. The reasons are: first, the plants in the basin are all made of stone; Secondly, workers are required to water every 10 to 15 days.

In a word, the choice of flowerpots in You Lan is not a big problem, except that it must be managed in a unified way. The key is what plant material to use and how to control water. Of course, there is another problem, that is, the size of the pot must be combined with the strength of the seedlings. If the weak single-seedling grass must use a medium pot, then it is recommended to plant two or three seedlings in a pot.
