I always feel sorry to hear a lot about the destruction of such ancient cultural relics or ancient buildings, whether it is human factors, force majeure factors or accidents. I remember what impressed me most recently was the Notre Dame fire. It was 19 19. The fire swallowed the Notre Dame spire, and soon the spire fell down, as if it were broken in the middle. This building, which represents a cultural era in my impression, was so badly damaged by a fire.
I deeply sigh for this. At that time, the news reported that it would take many years to repair it. But restoration is not restoration after all. This sentence actually means that the most primitive Notre Dame de Paris may have slowly disappeared a long time ago. So when I saw that the ancient Spanish statue was disfigured and repaired, I felt sorry and helpless.
I always feel that the unique display mode shown in each era and each cultural stage will never come back once it is over.
Just like the ancient sculptures in Spain, is the disfigurement restoration really because of the ugliness of the restoration? In fact, I don't think so. It's just that the restored things are out of the unique display mode of that era, which may make people feel modern. This is my personal guess. It is because of this speculation and some of my ideas that I have always felt that we should protect the existing cultural relics. Because it is really a concentrated expression of the culture of an era. Some things are really gone forever, and it is hard to get back. It is easy to repair something, but how difficult it is to completely retain its original charm. I feel sorry for the disfigurement restoration of ancient Spanish sculptures, but after all, the axle of the times and culture has been rolling forward.
What we can really do is to do our best to study the ability of learning and repairing, learn more about the previous culture and repair it with the combination of cultural heritage and technology. Of course, it is best to protect some ancient cultural sites and ancient buildings that have been preserved so far for a long time. This is the eternal treasure of the world.
