Riveting is the general name of riveting process and welding process in machining process. These two processes mostly fix two or more workpieces together, so they are also called riveting by the parties.

Riveting is to connect (fix) two or more workpieces together, then drill holes at appropriate positions for these workpieces, then put rivets in the holes, and then apply force at both ends of the rivets to fix them in the holes, so that each workpiece can be fixed at the same time.

Welding here refers to the processing method of welding workpieces together by electric welding or solution welding.
