How should peach trees be pruned when they are young?
Trees grow vigorously, often sprouting a large number of developing branches, long fruit branches, long fruit branches and a large number of secondary branches, with few flower buds, high node position and low fruit setting rate. The task of shaping and pruning is to enlarge the crown as soon as possible, basically complete the shaping task, quickly cultivate all kinds of fruiting branches, and promote their early fruiting and high yield. Therefore, the pruning amount of young trees should be light rather than heavy. Except for the extension branches of the main branches, the outer branches of the crown should be properly drained, and the other branches should not be cut. As far as possible, the auxiliary branches should be kept, and the fruiting branches should not be "heads", and the secondary branches and secondary branches should be used for fruiting. In the fourth year after planting, after a large number of fruits are started, some branches are cut short to cultivate new branches, and the fruiting branches are cut short to reduce the amount of flowers and cultivate fruiting branches. At the same time, technical measures such as sprouting, pruning, coring, bending branches and tying branches should be taken during the growing season.

The backbone branches are lightly cut and lengthened, which increases the opening angle and eases the tree potential. The cutting length is 1/2 ~ 2/3, which will neither stimulate the white growth of branches, nor cause the lower branches to be out of line because of the light cutting amount (Figure 88).

Fig. 88 Extended branch length of main branch

When cultivating lateral branches, it is best to choose the third to fourth bud branches under the cutting mouth as lateral branches, because this branch has a large branching angle and suitable growth potential. The cutting length of lateral branches should be 2/3 ~ 3/4 of the length of main branches. And pay attention to adjust the azimuth and opening angle of the main branch and the side branch.

Beginning to cultivate the fruiting branch group, due to the vigorous growth of trees, many overgrown fruiting branches and overgrown branches appeared. Strengthening pruning in summer, such as bending branches and coring, will promote the growth of middle and lower branches and make them cultivate larger fruiting branches quickly, or cultivate better fruiting branches by pruning and other methods.
